OTC anti-Depressants?

Hi everyone, here is my situation: For approximately 4 years I was on anti-depressants and had pretty good results. Life started to change and I felt I was no longer in need of them (with the agreement of my Psychiatrist that I greatly respect!) so I stopped taking meds. Flash forward 4 years and I have a baby. I was starting to feel like my 'blues' weren't going away after the birth and went back in to see her. She assured me that I was simply dealing with a mild case of the blues, coupled with a job that is sucking the life out of me. So, I left with no prescription, which I was fine with because this meant I was a 'normal working mom’ with a lot on her plate. Now, it’s one year later and I am still at the bad job and still feeling kind of depressed about it and the feeling that I cannot find anything that I am A) qualified for or B) worth taking a pay cut for.
I know that there are herbal remedies out there but wanted to tap you all for suggestions and/or experiences with anything like this. I am presently on birth control so no Sam-e (I think that was the one that can impact the effectiveness), I work out daily (6 days a week) so “adding activity” to my life is already there. Just need some ideas how to get through this slump until a better work situation arises. Thanks for your input, please reserve your judgment though...not interested, I am pretty good at beating myself up as it is!

if you are still experencing the blues one year later, then you need to go to a different doctor, one that will take you seriously. and try out an anti depressant

St John's worth is used frequently in Europe. I took it for a while and after 2-3 weeks I noticed a difference. You have to take it twice a day. I have read that it can impact BC pills but I didn't experience that. Also research gaba it is your bodies natural chemical and many foods can raise the levels. Also taking 5-htp and l- theanine can help with the gaba. I hope you find something to help. Depression sucks.

Try an acupuncturist, they can also recommend herbal supplements.

Most OTC anti-depressants have a pretty long list of side effects, some of which can be serious, and that's one reason that they are not OTC.

You can try herbals, but keep in mind that there is little to no control over them--no or very few and often not well done studies have done on herbal treatments.

I do suggest taking omega fatty acids (i.e., fish oil capsules). There have been pretty good indications that they can help people with mild depression.

Hi Sunnysm0m - I hope no one judges you; I think many can probably relate! The company I work with has a natural mood supplement; money back guarantee if it doesn't help you. We also have helped many moms work from home, so they can quit the hated job, replace their income, and work around the family schedule. May or may not be for you, but there is a way out! Good luck; hang in there. I hope I can help, or I hope you find good solutions elsewhere.

I am not a doctor, so this is certainly not medical advice, but I personally have found a Vitamin B Complex to help my mood. I take Twinlab Stress B-Complex and can definately see a difference. Maybe it's all in my head, but I don't think so on this one.
