HELP!!!!! i'm an excrutiating pain. i've gone to the hospital 2x since thursday due to the kidney stone. apparently its pretty big and its moving slowly. the pain med the dr gave me isn't working and i just realized that the only way it works is if i cut it in half. been drinking lots of water, but i have to go to work and obviously take care of my DD. have any of you done any home remedy type things that will help move it along and break it up?! i need something. i can't miss too much more work and i don't wanna feel loopy and dizzy because of the pain meds.

What can I do next?

Hi W.,
I have a Daily Detox tea that keeps kidney stones at bay and if you have them, helps to get rid of them. Give me a call and I can help you out.

Oh W., Having kidney problems of my own, I feel for you! If the stone is that large, are the doctor's going to "Blast it". They can do that so that it breaks up and then passes more easily! As for home remedies. Be careful about drinking too much water. You can "over hydrate" and that can actually cause your kidney to shut down. Try cranberry juice. It it a natural kidney flush and should help! As for the pain, try warm compresses over the painful area for about 10 minutes at a time. One of those rice bags taht you heat in the microwave work WONDERS for this!

I hope you feel better soon! Take care dear!

Hi W., well first let me say I'm sorry you are going through this. I know how it feels. I've been dealing w/ kidney stones for 5+ years. Some of the stones have actually gotten so large they have threatened my life. It doesn't seem like such a small stone can cause so much trouble but they do. Here are a few things that help me. When I get the stones I don't take the pain med. right away, it makes me feel loopy so I wait until I just can't tolerate the pain and then I take them. I drink lots of liquids, alternate w/ water and cranberry juice. The vit. c in the juice w/ help to prevent infection from the stones, but it won't treat an infection if it's already there (caused from the kidney stone). And as crazy as this may sound, I walk constantly to help the stone pass faster. Even though I feel so sick to my stomach and I'm in pain, the walking helps it to keep moving. Also try a hot bath or a hot shower. The constant warm water feels good. I hope your stone passes but if it doesn't there are a few methods the dr. uses to get the stone out. 1 is called lasertripsy. It's where the dr. uses a laser to blast the stone (I've had 4 of these and I made it through all of them just fine). 2 is called lithotripsy it's where this machine is used to brake up the stone w/ movement/vibration, I think. I'm not as familiar w/ this procedure but I've heard of it. When the stone passes you can request that the dr. send the stone off to a lab that can analyze the stone. Once the stone has been analyzed you will know what the stone is made up of, there are 4 different types of kidney stones. The dr. can help you know what things to add or take out of your diet to prevent more stones plus meds. are used to help prevent more stones from forming. Sorry this is so long, just wanted you to know you're not alone, it's a battle but it passes soon. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions...:)

Hi W.,
I feel for you. I have had kidney stones twice now and my husband also has had them. One thing that does seem to help is if you take a bath in the hottest water you can stand to lay in. The hot water will help you relax and help with the pain and sometimes it can help the stone move. The other you might want to do is go to the health food store and see if they have anything that can help with kidney stones. There is a product called Stone Free, what it does is it is suppose to soften the stone so that it makes it easier for you to pass it. Has your doctor said anything about blasting it if the stone is to big to pass. When I had my first stone I had to have what they call Lythotrpsy where they blast the stone with shock waves. It made it easier to pass the stone. Other then that there really is not much they can do for them, you may just have to work through the pain until you pass it. I know that is not easy to do, the hot bath does help with that. Hope this helps.

Hi W. drink cranberry juice that will also help you. Also Icy Hot sells patches that you can place right on your back that will help with the pain. With stones there isn't too much that can be done. If they are that big he should have you scheduled for laser surgery and have them removed. Good look hope things work out.

Hi W.,
I am sure you are in a lot of pain. My husband suffers from kidney stones and thanks to a "home remedy" he no longer has kidney stones. In my culture, we truly beleive in home remedies like the ones used by our great grandparents. The best remedy for kidney stones is called, "Palo de Brasil" (Brasil Wood)-- This tree trunk is liable to cure diabetes and reduce kidney stones. Was used to cure when medicines did not exist. You can find it in "Hialeah/Miami" area in a (Botanica). I am not sure if they have any in Broward County. You can look for them in the yellow pages. You place the entire bag (little trunks) in a gallon of water, shake it very well and let it sit for 24hrs in the fridge, you then drink it as common water. Everytime you are thirsty you drink that water. This has worked for all friends and family who've suffered from kidney stones. Good Luck! Hope you feel better. :-)

I went to an herbalist who gave me a tincture to break-up stones. It tastes disgusting but worked. I have also heard of (but never tried) lemon juice to break them up. Make sure you drink cranberry juice to prevent an infection.
Good Luck,

Hey W.,

First of all I pray to God that He will disolve these quickly for you!!

Here is a receipe that I found in an old fashioned cook book for Kidney stones.

6 red beets and 3 quarts water

Clean and wash beets (don't peel or slice). Combine beets and 3 quarts water in kettle. Boil slowly so as not to boil the water away. After 1 hour, strain the water into a jar and store in a cool place so remedy won't sour. Drink 3 glasses a day until gone. Almost never is a second dose necessary. The kidney stones don't pass: they just melt away!!

Let me know if you try this and if it works for you! I pray it does.

Hi. My grampa had a kidney stone and a friend recommended that with each meal he try to eat a portion of carrots and beets (they can be shaved or cut into tiny pieces). It doesn't have to be a big portion just try and do it with every meal or with lunch and dinner. His stone dissolved without anymore pain and everything ended without a single visit to the doctor or hospital. Hope I can help. I'm 26 years old with a 13 months baby girl and getting married in november. :-)
