Organic Whole Milk Brands

My husband and I have talked about giving my son organic whole milk when he turns one. He will be one in two weeks. We looked into Horizon vs. some other less know brands such as Broguiere's. Borguiere's brand is one of those that comes in a glass jug. My husband wants us to go for the Broguiere's brand because it is probably less processed and less commercial hence the shorter shelf life.

I on the other hand is okay with Horizon brand because it contains DHA and Omega fat so seems to be good for my little one's developing brain since he still needs the fat for brain development.

Both of these brands cost about the same. My husband is just worry that the more commercial brands might not be as good for my son.

I guess I would like to hear from other moms who feed their kids organic milk and if they have a preference for brands.

Thanks.

I try to buy organic, but the most important thing is that it's hormone free. I have to say, though, when I buy milk in glass containers I find it just tastes a whole lot better than milk sold in cardboard, and a million times better than milk sold in plastic.

I like Organic Valley, but I haven't heard of your husband's brand. Horizon is fine, but they use factory farms, which is not an animal-friendly practice. The healthiness of the process used to create vegetarian DHA is still under some debate, anyway. Good luck.

Do not get the clear bottle (or platic containers) the vitamins in milk breakdown when exposed to sun light and it would see a lot of light when sitting on the counter and when people open and close the fridge.

We do not use any specific brand - although I will typically buy my store brand organic because it is less expensive - the brands I have used are Nature's Promise (Store brand), Horizon and Stonyfield.

Whichever milk you choose - good choice on going organic!

Just be sure to get any milk WITHOUT hormones in it. It will say this on the milk container.
And yes, DHA omega fats are good for brain development.
I am sure you know, that for any milk through 2 years old, must be WHOLE milk... because, the milk 'fats' are crucial for brain development.

At my kids ages now, we buy the Costco "Kirkland" brand. BUT this is not whole milk... it is only 2% milk. Which for a 1-2 year old... is not suggested. Your son per his age through 2 years old, needs WHOLE milk.

When my MIL comes to town, she 'spoils' my son and buys him organic milk. She buys Horizon or the Costco brand. The Costco one is possibly cheaper too, if you haven't looked into it yet.

Good for you for doing your research. Either way you will be giving your son a better quality milk.

My almost 3 year old has been on organic whole milk since he turned one. We use the Trader Joe's brand, the Von's store brand and Horizon occasionally, although I'd never heard of issues w/Horizon prior to this. When I buy milk tomorrow, I'll be checking to make sure whatever brand I *do* buy is hormone-free!

Thanks for this post! Not sure if my info helped but reading the other posts sure helped me! :)

Check out Organic Pastures. The milk is non-homonogized and non-pasturized. I ordered from them to make my son homemade formula from the time he was 3months old!! He is now a healthy 5yr old.
