Opinions on Nestle Good Start Formula

My 3week old daughter is drinking Nestle Good Start Supreme with DHA AND ARA. We had used this formula with our son and he did very well with it so we decided to use it for our daughter as well. The problem is that she seems to have alot of gas and discomfort. We're currently using gas drops a few times a day and that seems to help, but i'm wondering if any other moms out there have experienced the same thing. I know that the Good Start is supposed to have those comfort protiens in it, but is it possible that she'd do better with Enfimil or Similac??? Has anyone experienced this issue with Good Start, switched and noticed an improvement? Thanks for your input....

What can I do next?

We have patients that have this issue all of the time. I would wait another week or two and see if her tummy adjusts. If it is getting better with gas drops, then it is not bad enough to confuse her digestive system just yet and switch formulas on her. If you do decided to switch, or after 2 more weeks still see her having the same issues, try Enfamil Gentlease. (Nutramigen is really for babies with severe issues) (like reflux, etc...)
My daughter was also very gassy her first few weeks and had colic. It went away around week 5. She is on Enfamil Gentlease still to this day and we rarely ever have to use gas drops.
But, remember every baby is different and you should do what you think is best for your baby.
Good luck!

We had the same problem with our daughter and the doc said she had collic, but once I switched from tap water to the gallon jug of distilled water that you can buy at any grocery store, it made a world of difference. Most people dont realize all the stuff that the city puts in water: chlorine, floride....etc!! It is really hard a little ones tummy. Try switching the water, you just might be surprised. And it is cheap!!! Hope you find some relief!!!

Hi. The best formula for those problems we thought was Nutramigen. We put both our babies on Good Start and had our second had painful results with it. We tried all the others and finally went to Nutramigen. I didn't want to use it b/c it is really expensive, but at least it saved us on the crying, pain, doctors appts, that the others resulted in. Just a thought. Good luck.

We had the same problem with our daughter when we supplemented her with Good Start at 5 weeks old. We gave her mylicon frequently also. We switched her to enfamil lipil, and she did just great. Every baby is different. Unfortunately, you just kind of have to spend the ridiculous amount of money buying formula until you find one that works for your little one! :)

Your little girl is still so VERY new!! I am not sure that the formula is really the issue here. She is just getting used to the world. I would continue what you are on, give her gas drops, and maybe even put the drops in the formula itself. I know my children got upset stomaches if I fed them the formula immediately after mixing it...air bubbles in the formula. I found that if I had mixed it early (say for church or dinner outing) they did better. Look at how much you are feeding her, are you getting good burps from her, and are you laying her down soon after she eats? These things can affect her and make her uncomfortable. I would keep her upright ~ 20 minutes or so after she eats, lay her against your chest for example. Nestle is a GREAT formula and I know that they also have some for sensitive stomaches. Enfamil and Similac are WAY expensive and I think some people think expensive is better ~ I am not one of those people. She is only 3 weeks old... If you are really concerned, call her pedi ~ she might have reflux...that causes MAJOR discomfort! Best of luck and congrats on the new one!

I had my daughter on it for a bit and she had no problems. You might want to switch and try another formula. My daughter takes enfamil now and does fine. Other than that you can keep giving her mylicon and talk to your doctor. Hope this helps a little!

Unfortunately, I think it's trial and error for each baby. We tried Enfamil, Good Start and regular Similac with the same gassy results. We currently use Similac Soy, but if our baby boy drinks too much in a day (we supplement breastmilk with formula) he still has gas problems, but less severe than with the others. You should contact your pediatrician to see if they have formula samples you could try, so you don't spend a lot of money trying different brands. Good luck!!
