Hi there, I'm also a single mom and I attend CTU online, Colorado Technical Universty. They have a great program, you take 2 classes at a time for 5 weeks and it is reasonably priced. CTU is more flexible than University of Phoenix and they do everything for you they can!
I'll have my assoc Friday the 28th and my bach in Sept 2009
really easy.
Good luck to you!

E.,

I also am a single Mom of three (13 yr old and 8yr old twins) and I have been doing the online school thing for the past 2 yrs. I go to Capella University. I am happy with my experience with this school and the advisors are always there when I need them. Good luck!

My advice would be NOT to go to an online school. There are a lot of schools out there that offer online classes and will allow you to take tests, etc, at your local college or even public library. If that sounds like it could be problematic, find an online school where the credits will transfer to a regular university or college after you have taken the basics. That way you can do most of your schooling online but get your degree from a real university. If you are determined to do the whole thing online, just make sure to pick an accredited university and check with your local college or university to make sure that they have a good reputation.

Dear E.,

Reach for the stars, dear, don't stop with your AA, go for a BA, then an MA where you can earn a serious living for the both of you. It's hard being a single parent, so many of us have been there, but it is even harder to want something such as an education and not get there. So, call the nearest four year college or university and speak with a career counselor and ask them the path to on line, or evening courses. Ask them for their guidance, that is what they get paid for, about how to reach your goal. They like goal oriented people, and you have some excellent goals in mind, to be self suporting and, to be educated in your own life and the life of your child.

If you don't get the type of help that is truly useful, don't stop, call another person and another. Do not give up, be resilient, ask about work-study employment qualifications, ask about PELL Grants, they are free, no need to pay them back. There maybe other grants (free money) that are available. Ask about getting help in filling them out, and where to send them and when, the timing is important for the classes you wish to take.

You will succeed, it takes guts to do what you are doing.
Hang in there, I care,
E. H

Hi E.,
I highly recommend Chapman University!
I am in your same boat: single mom of a preschool age boy, having to work etc... I "attend" Chapman - lately online-- It has been a wonderful school! Check out www.Chapman-Online.org. Also check out www.Chapman.edu...
What state are you in? There may be some less expensive temporary options for the AA part of your degree, such as Jr. college. I know in the state of California you can get alot done through the Jr. College system... If you have any other questions feel free to contact me.

Hi E.,

Have you searched the internet for online schools? I earned my Master's Degree online and am currently earning my PhD online as well. I am attending TUI University, but I don't think they have a psychology degree? I know they have education. I love learning online! It's not any easier, but it is much more convenient! Good luck!

Alliant International University(California School of Professional Psychology formerly) would be a good start. I believe thety still offer online programs....or National University, Chapman or Phoenix.

Hi E.,

I am completing my Bachelors with University of Phoenix completely online and I think it is great. I can manage my studies around my family and work time and it works well for me. They have many different programs available. For more info. go to www.uop.edu-info.com

Hi Eia

I don't know of an online school, but I recieved my master's degree in psychology from the Univeristy of Santa Monica (USM). The beauty of it for those of us with busy lives is that it meets one weekend a month. It was an amazing experience.

Good luck!

I'm not sure where you live, but you may want to look into your local community college. I was able to take most of my classes online that way and it is cheaper then having to go to one of the online schools. However if that doesn't work I would recommend Phoenix as they are becoming more widely recognized and are acredited.

I got my MBA online at the university of Phoenix and I was really surprised by the quality of teaching and learning that I recieved. I think I learned more in that program then as a full-time student at Cal Lutheran were I recieved my BA.

University of Phoenix! I got my master's from them, but I attended the Diamond Bar campus. My sister though, got her master's in business online from them. It is a lot of work, but it is fast and very convenient. If you are willing to put in the time to do all your assignments, they are a super school!
Hope this helps :)

University of Phoenix! My daughter is going there to pursue her dream of being a marriage and family therapist. She works full-time also. You have the choice of studying online or you can go to a class in Woodland Hills once a week for four hours. That's what she opted to do. The school has financing, and she was able to obtain more financing as well. Don't be afraid of the money, because there's plenty of it out there. Make the call - it will change your life! I know it changed my daughter's life - she's making straight A's! Good luck to you.

Check out USD (University of San Diego). I took some classes through their homestudy program. They sent me a package of material and I had a good amount of time to complete it. They weren't online classes, but they were easy to complete with flexible time (not having to commit to a class time). Good luck! I know how it can get wanting to take classes, but having so much responsibility at home with children running around.

Sounds like your plate is pretty full. Maybe school should wait a little longer so you don't end up stressed out by the end of the week and your son doesn't lose precious time with you.

E.,

My husband and step daughter have both used California Coast for their online school. They both like it real well and they are accredited, which is what you really need to look for. I don't know if they teach child psychology so you'd have to look up their website. Good Luck. ~M.
