Hi, has anybody done one of these courses? I want to do it just to make myself a little more confident about driving, but I know they market to people as a way to get a reduction on insurance rates. You have to provide a lot of personal information- I want to make sure I don't fall for a scam! Any advice? Thanks!

What can I do next?

It wasn't good for me b/c I think it's better for me in person. I didn't pay as much attention and was bored to death. This wouldn't happen to most people probably, but I didn't like being tested at each section...

I'm an insurance agent in AZ. If you are mostly concerned about finding a legit one, then contact your insurance company and they will know. They also may accept certificates from certain ones that will lower your insurance premiums, so why not take that course and benefit in more ways than one! Good luck!

I did one on www.empiresafetycouncil.com and it's definitely not a scam. It's for New York drivers. I will do it again in three years. Good luck!

defensivedriving.com is the one I believe we have used.

However, we have not used it to be more confident in driving, lol, we used it so a ticket would be dismissed and then we also got a discount on the insurance.

You can take it once a year here.

My husband did an online course and what it would do is call him at various points within the online test as a voice verification to make sure it was him still online taking the test. He would have to give the code on the screen to move on. It also wouldnt let him advance without making sure the page was read. Many people skim while reading a page online. This would not let you move for a given amount of time so he had to read the page. Shocking he agreed that he learned a lot of things and passed with flying colors, lol. You can also stop when you need to and go back when your ready, I have no idea what its called as its been a while but it was pretty cool considering his work schedule he couldnt sit in a class for all those hours.

I believe you can find them off the DMV website, that would be the best way to make sure its not a scam.
Good Luck

To avoid falling for any scam, call your insurance company and ask for a recommendation for a class.

I had to take it for my business a few years ago. It was $25, and it was actually worthwhile. It's kind of a refresher of what you already know, forgot, or what they've changed since you learned how to drive. I found that it did help my awareness and driving skill a bit. Check with your insurance company and see what program they recommend.

Okay I realize I learned to drive playing Pole Position but how do you take an online defensive driving course?

For anyone that has been in a car with me how I learned to drive makes a lot of sense. :p

Defensive driving? That doesn't sound good. It sounds too agressive and like a scam. Some insurance companies will offer discounts if you actually take a driver's education course and some won't. Ask your insurance company, before you waste money.

I did one and it was so easy and totally boring! it was a dvd I rented at blockbuster or something. It was a few years ago, but I think I looked it up and got reviews. My husband did an online comedy one as well. Just make sure it is state approved, if you aren't sure, call your local dmv or your insurance and they can probably tell you which ones are recommended.

I did one that was linked with GEICO and when it was completed, it put the reduction directly on my policy

It was the cheaper of several I had researched and you can stop it and start it up again, which I found helpful.
