Has anyone taken an online defensive driving course? If so, how was it? Would you recommend it and which one? I have to complete a course this month and thought I might do one of those online courses.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I did this about 4 years ago and hated it. I know defensive driving isn't supposed to be fun but this was about as dry as you can get. Everything everyone else said about not being able to skip ahead and it actually taking the FULL amount of time to complete it is true. I would definitely opt for the video version or an in person class the next time I have to take it myself. I was bored to tears taking the on-line version.

I took the defensivedriving.com course and liked it. You do have to take the little random "tests" to prove that it is you taking the test and not someone else and you do have to spend the required time online, but you can do it at your own pace and you can do it in your jammies. Not a whole different than the videos, but I liked it better.

I took it for a speeding ticket and it worked out well. I did www.defensivedriving.com It breaks it up into sections with a test at the end of each section. You're required to spend a certain amount of time on each. So it doesn't allow you to just skip through the reading straight to the test. I was a student at the time and didn't have the time to sit through a class. Doing it online allowed me to take it at my own leisure.

Of course, this was from years ago, so I'm not sure if it's changed any.

You can start and stop as often as you need or you can sit and do it all at once (8 hours, I think). I liked it because I could do a couple of hours a day during naptime and not have to worry about sitting in a classroom.

If you do decide to do it online (or in person or by video) just be sure that the company you use is recognized by your court.

I just did it online and it was fine. I did it 5 years ago as well (online). 5 years ago to get rid of a ticket, this year to reduce my insurance.

defensivedriving.com is just fine. Super easy to fit into your schedule.

Confession time: I did it at work when I was bored or at lunch. :)

Also, be aware that in TX, you can take the same course to get rid of a ticket AND reduce your insurance, so make sure you send a copy to your insurance (you get 2 copies).

The test is super easy. Common sense stuff.

Good luck

I took http://www.idrivesafely.com/ a few years ago and it's recognized in Collin County. It is convenient if you want to break it up in sections a few hours at a time, but honsetly, I would probably go to a class next time. It really does take a full 8 hours + and you could get it done faster in a classroom.

Also note, if you do any online class, they will test you at random times to make sure you are who you really are with personal questions like maiden name, DL#, plates, etc. They make you enter it in a specific amount of time, so make sure you have the info handy and enter it correctly, or else 2 strikes and you get locked out of the system and have to start over.
