My baby girl just turned 1 a few weeks ago and all of a sudden has started waking up around 12 am or 2 am and wont stay alseep. Last night she woke up at 2 am and I tried to sooth her back to bed but at 3 am she was wide awake and didnt go back to bed until 6 this morning. I dont know if she is going through a growth spurt and is having growing pains or if she is teething? Or if it could possibly be what we think she might have Spastic Torticollis.

We did move into a new home three weeks ago and it is down the road from RR tracks. But she has been sleeping fine up until three day's ago...I am to the point of sleep deprivation...my hubby works nights so it is just me with her. My husband came home at 5am to help me get some rest. Since I watch another baby during the day.

Anyone have expierence with a baby who sleeps throught the night to all of a sudden wont stay asleep.

Update: I have tried to let her cry it out...but she can cry and cry...and cry. She will continue for way over an hour if I dont come in and lay next to her crib or pick her up. These are things I dont like or want to do...afaid she will get into a habit. We are going to try to get a white sound machine and see if that works.

What can I do next?

We had the same thing. At 10 months our son just quit sleeping through the night. For three months I was sleep deprived and not sure what to do. After talking to our peditrician and my therapist, we came to the conclusion to let him "cry it out". Yes, "ferberize" him. The first night was awful - he screamed for 48 minutes. It took about 10 days, with the crying easing up each time. Now, he is a champ. I don't feel like I have a fog over my head and I am sure he is getting better sleep. I know this method is not for everyone. We tried everything else that was recommended to us as we did not like the sounds of letting him cry it out. But I have to say, it worked. He goes down for naps and bedtime very easily. Good Luck and I hope you get some sleep!!

My 18-month-old recently started waking up at night because we have a new baby in the house who woke him up. He has had that Fisher Price aquarium since he was in his crib, and we moved it to his toddler bed with him. When he wakes up, he turns it on himself and it soothes him back to sleep. It has also helped a lot now that we are giving up the paci!

My son did this a couple of months ago, I was up with him a few times per night, sometimes for 30 minutes at a time. I bought the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and the "secret" is putting them to bed earlier! Ryan had been going to bed at 8pm and I moved his bedtime to 7pm..... he slept 12 hours the first night and has done great since. I have read that both babies and teenagers need more sleep than they think they do.

We were skeptical but it sounds like you're at the point I was when I tried it.... nothing to lose. He will sometimes cry for about 10 minutes at the door and then go lay down in his bed.

Good luck.... I've been there and I hope you find what works soon.

Make sure her naps are not after 3 in the afternoon. Give her a warm bath before bedtime.

First of all, I wouldn't turn on any lights when she wakes up and when you are checking on her and then once you know that she is safe and not hurting or sick I would walk right back out of her room and go back to bed. She knows right now that you are going to get up and come to her rescure and so she is playing you for that .

My son also started doing this. He doesn't do it every night, but maybe 2-3 nights a week he will wake up around 2 AM. I'm not sure what wakes him: a nightmare, teething, gas, airplane, thunder?? I let him cry it out and he now he will only wake up and cry/whine for about 5 minutes and then fall back asleep until 7:30-8 AM. Of course, if it was a blood curling scraem, of course I would run in to see what was wrong but its always just a whiny cry. His bedtime is 9:30. He takes 2 naps a day. One is an hour or more long, and the second is 30 minutes. I try not to let him nap after 6 pm. I always have background noise and nightlight on in his room. I leave the clock radio on at a low volume. He seems to prefer the oldie's music station over the others. I've tried classical, hip hop, soft rock,indie,country...but he sleeps best with oldie's. :)
Also, I have the Ocean wonders aquarium mobile set up on his nightstand and sometimes when he wakes up,I quietly go to his door and use the remote to turn it on. It has the soft lights that simulate fish swimming on the ceiling. He loves it.
