One Year Old Fell on Teeth

My 12 month old fell off the bed and landed face first on his teeth. One was bleeding. He was refusing to eat. Now he seems fine, appetite is back to normal but he has a fat lip and his chin is black and blue. I am wondering from those experienced people out there if this will have caused some serious damage. He is going to the doctors today but I am really really worried regardless.

As a dental professional, it sounds like the teeth are Ok. sometimes if hit on the gum area it can damage the tooth buds of the permanent teeth, however that does'nt seemed to have happened. The bruise is the blood draining and it settles in the chin the lowest place and will disappear soon. A good sign is that he is eating. Not to worry.

You may want to take your little one to the dentist. My son fell and hit his front teeth about 6 months ago.he x-rays showed possible damage and when we went bavk last week for a check up the new x-rays showed the nerves gone on one of the teeth. The dentist said he doesn't need to e pulled, but it could absess. It is best to have a dentist look at the teeth.

Yes, take him in to get xrays. My son had a bike accident, and fell on his face and it cause all kinds of problems with his teeth and the cartlidge of his nose. I know bike accident is a little more sever but better to be safe than sorry. Plus if you catch something now it'll be easy to fix.
Hope that was helpful & hope your son is ok : )

I'd for sure have your son seen by a pediatric dentist just to be sure.

our daughter, who is very active and rough and tumble, fell on her face running when she was 21 months. one front tooth chipped, the other one bled a little at the top and while she really cried for a bit, we gave her some ice and she was fine in 5-10 min. we took her to the regular dentist who thought it was fine, they are baby teeth anyways, but we got a referral to a really good pediatric dentist in our area (the non-chipped tooth started to turn grey after a week or two).
one tooth is dead, the other might be and it's recommended for her to have a root canal to avoid infection. it's scheduled in a couple of weeks, wish us luck!

Take him to the dentist to ease your fears. It doesn't have to be a full check up you just want to have him look at the teeth he fell on. It will make you more at ease. My daughter did it at 11 months and she bled very easily from that area for a little over a year but there was no permanent damage.

By dad is a dentist which in no way makes me an expert, but my understanding it that if the tooth is knocked loose, it will correct itself. There is only a problem if its knocked out.

Hi B.

This happened to my son. The first thing to do is take him to a dentist. My sons teeth were slightly loose, which we couldn't tell. We had him chew on the side of his mouth until they were strong again. I am sure that everything will be fine.

My son fell and chipped one tooth and there was a lot of bleeding. I took him to our drs. And they referred me to a pediatric dentist who took xrays. We found that he was ok and I have to watch his teeth for signs of infection up to a year from when it happened but I am glad we went for my piece of mind! He goes for check ups now (he's 2) and his teeth seem to be ok. As long as you will see the dr. They'll be able to check for concussions, etc! Good luck!

It shouldn't. My daughter fell and cut her gums when she had just gotten teeth, and I panicked and took her to my dentist. He said just watch the teeth, and if they start turning grey at all, then you have a problem. My daughter's healed fine and we didn't have any issues. Good luck!

I say take him to the Pedo Dentist just to be on the safe side. I have had patients that are adults, and seen some cases of a tooth discolored. One patient said he fell on his face at a child and the tooth grew discolored since but he is fine and still going about his daily routine. This individual's tooth may be dead and no sensation but he said he is fine. I have seen a lot of those type cases. It may just be a bruise from the fall but I would take him in for check up just to be on the safe side for x-rays and follow ups...

I would recommend seeing a pediatric dentist. If they aren't loose, you're probably ok. But you'll want to keep an eye on them for signs of change, particularly turning gray, as this can be an indication of trouble. It may change slowly, but I'd monitor it regularly.

Otherwise, just chalk it up to more bumps and bruises that little boys end up with. I hope he's ok.

This happened to our son, and I agree about going to the dentist. With our son his two front teeth turned gray, and the dentist thought the teeth were dying. But about 4 months later the gray color went away and the white color was restored.
