One Scared Mama!!

I had my tubes tied almost 3 years go, according to my doctor the likelihood of me becoming pregnant was about a 1% chance. With that said, last month my period was days late, but eventually came this month it is 1 day late and still not here. Everything acts like I should be starting, breast enlarging and sensitive, lower back aches, fatigue, and slight weight gain but still nothing. I know if I am worried I should just take a test and put it out of my mind, but part of me is scared to take that test. I was wondering if anyone has become pregnant after a tubal and what were your symptoms? I think if I don't start in a couple of days I will go down and take a test to put myself at ease (or not depending on the results).

Thank you

So What Happened?

Sorry for those asking I am 32 years old so I didn't think it was possible to start menopause and had never head of perimenopause. Just he idea of that is scary to think about but would be a relief to have rather than a child. I know that sounds harsh but I am done having kids, I son is almost 9 years old, my husband and I have finally have our family life in a good place and I think having a baby right now would really complicate things for us.

You need to see your OB/GYN. You might be going through periomenopause.

If it will ease your mind, take a pregnancy test. However, make an appointment with your OB/GYN to get in and checked out.

Ask your mom and grandmothers when they started menopause. Know your family history. It helps you to know what to expect and when.

Good luck!

you've never heard of peri-menopause? really?
of course people CAN become pregnant after a tubal ligation, even though the possibility is greatly reduced.
i don't get how it's scarier to take a simple pregnancy test than to dither in ignorance and terror.

Could it be perimenopause? That is a common symptom. It can start to happen in early 30's.

Otherwise I would stick with your plan and take a test in a few days. If its positive I would call your doctor to discuss the risks of pregnancy after a tubal ligation.

How old are you?
Mid to late 30's you can start kissing your regular on schedule periods goodbye.
My peri menopause lasted just over 15 years.
A year ago Dec I finally made it a whole year with no periods to full menopause.
I'm so thriller to be done with it!

For a long time my periods were like normal, normal, skip, normal, normal, short, normal skip - and things got to a point where I was only having them a few times a year (which was a pain because the only warning I had that one was coming was my face would break out the day before).
The irregularities came months before my first hot flash / night sweat.

When you go for your test (and hopefully it's the answer you're hoping for), if you're not pregnant, have them test your hormone levels - they should be able to tell you if it's peri menopause so you have an idea of what's going on and can deal with it accordingly.

Additional:
Early 30's is a little unusual for peri menopause but it's not unheard of.
When you're done having kids, you're done having kids - no need to apologize for that.
If this is causing you a lot of stress (and stress can throw your period off too), no matter what the cause - maybe your husband should get a vasectomy so that you both are double sure that late/skipped/missed periods are not due to pregnancy.

First, yes, I know several moms who conceived and birthed healthy babies after a tubal. It does happen. Any $1Dollar store test will put your mind at ease.

Also, our hormones change every decade, 20's, 30', 40's, 50's, etc. Personally, I have never had a regular cycle and don't know what it is like to be so regular you can count the days you are late. It would be beneficial for you to read up on what happens hormonally in your 30's. Your body is probably just making a few changes.

Most likely its just your body changing due to a shift in hormones. A friend of mine was beyond upset wondering how to explain to her hubby that she was pregnant but it turned out to be perimenopause. Her doctor laughed and said it happens all the time in his practice.

Not to be mean or anything but how old are you? If you're even in your 40's you could be starting peri-menopause. It could be something else other than pregnancy...

Chin up. What I do in times like these is imagine the worst. Really think about what it would mean. Imagine yourself in that position, and realize - yes it's scary but - even in the worst case, everything WILL be all right. Most likely you're not pregnant. Those symptoms you listed are common both as PMS symptoms AND pregnancy symptoms. So there's literally no way to tell until you take a test. Good luck.

We're your periods alway regular to the day?
Mine never were so I wouldn't ever be concerned if I was O. day late.
Especially since the same thing happened last month...

I don't mean to make you more scared, but I think you need to go to the doctor and rule out that you have tubal pregnancy. That's dangerous and can take your life, so you need to find out.

Good luck!
