One Child Is Sick How Do I Keep the Rest of Them from Getting It...

I am a SAHM. I have two children 3 and 1 and I watch a another child who is 2. My son who is 1 woke up this morning fine, but in the past hour he has begun vomiting. I called our Ped and they said it is going around and could last anywhere from 24 hours to five days. So my question is how do I keep everyone from getting it. My son has already thrown up on me twice. He has thrown up on the carpet, the wood floor...he is still playing with toys which I am trying to keep out of the hands of the other two, but not sure if this is enough. Any suggestions on how you disinfect or santize to keep others healthy would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

As of now, the little girl I watch has gone home. Her mom decided it was best to take her home and keep her home for today and tomorrow and she could stay with her grandma Thurs if needed which is so nice! My son is now keeping down gatorade and he had a bit of applesauce. I still have to scrub the rug, but I did turn the heat down and pull out the hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes. My husband was also home today and he took our three year old out and about so she wouldn't be couped up in here all day...looks like everyone is taken care of except me....so hopefully I'll make it through as well.

I would also add that you use a disinfectant spray like Lysol on all of the door knobs and light switches at least once a day, until the illness is gone. You change a diaper or clean up vomit and them open the bathroom door, turn on the light switch, then wash your hands and reinfect yourself on the way out when you touch the switch and door knob again. Don't forget to do the front door and main switches, once a day too, until the illness is gone.

Make sure in addition you and your hubby are washing your hands a lot. That's how Dr's can see so many sick patients and not get it. Especially when going from sick child to healthy child. Although make sure you are santatizing any surface they or drool may come in contact with. Limit sick childs toys to easily cleanable toys and you could even keep them in a seperate area but it probably is already too late.

Depending on what exactly he has, it might be too late already. But, most of the things you are doing should minimize the chances. My son is fighting through a round of Scarlet Fever today. His classroom has it going around. All we can do for him is make him comfortable, and try to keep things clean. Hang in there. This will pass.

I saw this on a news channel. Soak your tooth brush's 3/4 hydrogine peroxide 1/4 water. The carpet is a hard one I rented a steam cleaner but there is this stuff called oderbegone its by the febreeze stuff at Wal-Mart it works great and it kills enzymes. The bug has gone through my daughters class along with strep I have been cleaning for two days fun fun. Good Luck M. D

Have all wash hands frequently and use paper towels or inexpensive paper guest towels to dry. Stay away from fabric hand towels. Airborne is helpful in trying to keep illness at bay (or, at least, decrease intensity and duration). Disinfectant wipes in kitchen and bathroom. Purell is supposed to be best anti-bacterial/sanitizer to use in that it does not destroy any good bacteria.

Stay healthy!

my husband had the stomach bug one week sunday and monday- my baby had the bug tuesday and wednesday- then Ihad it on thursday..

sorry but these stomach bugs are very contagious... I wishyou the best- but I wouldnt be surprised if everyone gets the bug... it is bad- but it is over quickly. Remember the mommy mantra... this too shall pass.

The stomach flu is airborne so there isn't much more you can do. The common cold is spread through touch. What I always do, after the initial obsessive disinfecting, is open the windows. Even in the winter. My neighbors know when our home was hit with a contagious germ because my windows would be open even though the temp was under 40. A little fresh air will do wonders and they don't have to be open too long.
