Tooth grinding is very common in kids. Discuss it at her first dental visit--which is probably soon. Most likely no big deal.

Our dentist says that this is not only normal but *wanted*. It's part of the teething process which helps new teeth erupt, grows strong roots, and rounds off knife sharp edges.

Talk about nails on chalkboard kind of sound, though.

All babies go through this-- just trying new things....nothing to be concerned about. Do your best to ignore the behavior-if you let her know that you are watching her, she will think its funny and continue. So just whatever you do, don't freak out, ignore and it will go away after a few weeks or so----

It's no biggie! My daughter and niece (same ages) started grinding they're teeth once they had them to grind. Yes, it can be quite a bad noise sometimes, but like Riley J. said, it's part of the teething process. Not to mention, their teeth are new to them, and they're figuring out that they can do things and make noises with them, so it's also kinda like it's just another form of experimentation. Think back to when she started to "realize" she had hands and would sit there and look at them in amazement. Well, she cant see her teeth but she's finding a way to discover them and see what they're all about!

My daughter does the same thing and her dentist tells us that it's totally normal, so I'll just repeat the same thing to you. It's totally normal.

Is she ingesting any sugars ~ rice and fruits have a high sugar content. Switch her to more protein and veggies (not corn, peas, potatoes) and see what happens.

Don't worry:) She has new fun things in her mouth and she is finding out what they do and what fun sounds they make. My oldest did this too (she also liked to nip when nursing) and she is now 8 and has a beautiful mouth full of teeth. I think ignoring is the best bet, as at this age making mommy freak out is a favorite past time for most babies. Maybe give her something to chew. Lots of luck!

My sons, especially, ground their teeth a LOT. It is horrible to listen to, and you fear there won't be any teeth left.

I don't know that much about teeth grinding, but at least I can tell you that both my boys are almost grown and still have all their teeth intact.

No you shouldn't be worried, both of mine did this for a while after they first realized they made noises, it lasted a few weeks and then they stopped. I remember with my first asking the dentist if I should be concerned and he said not to be, that most babies will grind their teeth at some point & it is mostly just out of curiosity, novelty & they like they noise. If you notice it at night then I might mention something to your ped, but don't worry Momma this is TOTALLY normal.
