Have any of you given your kids the Omega 3 supplement? My grandson (age 7) does not eat fish & was having ahard time focusing. After doing a little reading & research, I realized that the fish helps with brain power & focusing. It is not encluded in his multi-vitamin & found that it can come in gummies for kids. I gave him 2 gummies & he calls them his focus pills. I don't know it it really works, but he THINKS that it does. I have noticed a difference in the past week, but I would like any input that you may have. Thanks

What can I do next?

Yes, I have heard that these supplements are a good way to get omega-3s into kids, if for no other reason than they will actually take them. And he seems to think that they help him; sometimes, the placebo effect is oftentimes the best solution. I'd say if he likes them and takes them and says they help him, I'd continue giving them to him.

My daughter takes a 750 mg EPA-DHA fish oil supplement. I have noticed a tremendous difference in her ability to focus and stay focused. So yes, I do believe omega-3s are good for you, whether you get them through eating fish/shellfish or taking a multi.

We give our kids the Barlean's Omega 3 supplement that Amy recommended below and my husband and I take the adult version!

I am puzzled by the comment that it can cause complications in diabetics as our endocrinologist recommends fish oils for my children with Type 1 Diabetes, and my husband, who also has T1D, has had the same recommendation from his doctor. I have never heard of, or experienced, fish oils affecting blood sugars.

I noticed a marked drop in my anxiety levels after taking fish oils for 4 days and I am amazed at how our whole family has not had severe dry skin since beginning our Omega 3 supplement. Awesome stuff.

Also, look into the things Christy Lee suggested. Very important!

From the research I've done, it takes approximately 21 days to see a difference, so it's likely that you're seeing a placebo effect.

I also recommend researching magnesium, calcium and vitamin D3. Yes, his multi might contain them, but not in the amounts that he needs to help with focus.

Best of luck!

Whether the "focus pills" are helping or not, it sounds like they help your grandson. The placebo effect is powerful when it works, and eventually, the actual effect of the oil will become more apparent.

My grandson's family had used fish oil for years. He's also 7, a typical, active boy, but he has no learning challenges. I've used Mega Red krill oil for a couple of years now, and notice I feel less focused if I run out for more than a couple of days. Also, they clearly help my arthritic joints.

Omega 3s are essential for brain growth and development and can also assist in strengthening the immune system, moisturizing skin, hair and nails, and preventing inflammation in the body, a source of chronic illness and issues.

Barleans has great tasting Omega supplements! You can get them on Amazon.com. Some even taste like orange swirl. My son loves them. They're organic and free of anything artificial. Check it out!

Our son has severe ADHD and takes the Omega 3s. He's taken them for a couple of years now and we've seen zero benefit for his ADHD. However, we continue to give them to him for the health benefits.

I agree with the comment that it's likely the placebo effect with your grandson. The studies that have shown it's beneficial always note that it takes a long time to see results.

Just be aware that there can be complications for those who are diabetic, if they use fish oil or if he has any surgery done.

And any time your grandson my be going to the dentist, doctor etc, they should know about the fish oil use if he has any procedures or do bloodwork. It can have some anticoagulant properties and using it with regularly taken NSAIDS (advil/motrin) and also affect his glucose readings.
