I sell some at Half Price Books, but most I donate to organizations that send books overseas to troops.

Depends on the type of book! Go through everything to see if it may be worth money and sell those online or at a used bookstore. After that, call your library to see what they accept before dropping it off. My public library does not accept encyclopedias or textbooks, but they do take all kinds of fiction, nonfiction, childrens, etc. The rest goes straight into the recycling bin.

Keep them! You never know what might become a classic. Plus, I can't wait to give my daughter the boxes of books I've collected over the years and let her have at it. I have so many fond memories attatched to my books, I couldn't give them away. But, if you must, try the local library or a retirement community.

I give all my adult books to nursing homes/care facilities. I have NEVER walked into one where the cute little old ladies aren't reading! I'm sure they would love some new material to read.

We have a "Half Price Books" chain here that buys used books. That's where I take them.

I give my kids' books that they've outgrown either to their younger cousins, or to the school library (which has zero budget to buy anything anymore).

For my books, if I have a friend who I think may enjoy the book, I'll give it to them. Otherwise I donate them to Goodwill.

I keep, old outdated books.... IF they are a collectible.
Meaning, I collect books. I have many one of a kind and 1st issued books. Which are collectibles.
So I do not get rid of those.

If they are collectible, you can take them to an antique bookstore. Or sell them.

I usually drop them in the book return bin at the library. That way my local community can benefit from what my family no longer needs.

Would you consider sending them to BooksForAfrica.org? They will take any books, esp textbooks, no matter how outdated b/c the people who read them are building their information, therefore, any info is valueable info for them.
