Old Lady Arms

So, I work out a lot, but it's finally happened -- I'm getting old lady arms. There's a looseness to the skin below the armpit and a stringy look, even though I've still got plenty of fat and muscle.

So, I've been putting it off, but I guess it's finally time for some weight training.

Can you actually get rid of old lady arms with weights? What are the best exercises or can you recommend an exercise video? Thanks.

What can I do next?

Yes you can get rid of old lady arms with weight training as long as you are also doing some cardio as well. The more muscle you have the more fat you burn. You could try this website: www.exercisetv.tv. It has alot of free videos, as well as ones you can download. I love Jillian Michaels, but you can also just go and get yourself some hand weights, and do weights at home. Pushups work also to firm up the arms, chest, back, shoulders all at once. Start with the girls ones, and work up to the full pushup.

Absolutely!! Try the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred video. 20 minutes programs - levels 1, 2 and 3. The workout is cardio, abs and weight training; however she does multiple sections each time (i.e. jumping jacks with weights). It is an amazing video and easy to do at home. I am getting muscles in places I never knew existed and losing fat. It is the best 20 minute workout. All you need is a mat and 2 - 5lb. weights.

Yep it's time to add weight training to your exercise regimen. Keep up the daily cardio, healthy/well balanced diet and add some upper body strenght training. The best for that area is trip extensions over your head with light weights. Just concentrate on 3 repetitions of 10-15 times. Start with a lower rep if you need to. You can add tricep dips from a chair (no equipments necessary) and the best one ever for this area: you lie on a bench with your arms over your head w/a light weight bar and extend your arms from your forehead down below the bench (also known as skull crushers...just a fancy name). Push ups incorporate a little back and chest but I don't feel they work as well or isolate the tricep as well.

I am not sure about age, but you are never too old to excercise and get rid of those old lady arms.
First, do some yoga- I reccommend the earth flow basics. Stretch out your body and get it in workable, moldable shape. Next, get into a regular routine. Small weights and high reps will burn the most fat and flab. Now, if you are up for it, get a video or get a gym membership. I like turbo jam. It has a low impact version that they show you for people with sensitive joints- which can be anything from age to vitality to weight causing an issue. Also, I think they are called zumba classes, but I have a friend who decided her severe overweight issue needed to be resolved and loves zumba. All excerise will burn fat, all over. The weights on hands and arms will focus a little more energy on the "problem areas" and keep you going.
If you have a hard time staying motivated, get a friend to do it with you...and go outside a couple of times a week with hand or arm weights and ankle weights and power walk with a friend. You will immediately start to feel better.
Hope this helps
