Hello!

My daughter just turned 4 last month. She is very active (great swimmer, takes dance, etc) and has asked to learn soccer (and golf and tennis for that matter). Though we play around with her in our backyard it has only added to her desire to do/play more. I've taken her out to watch soccer camps and she is enthralled. OK - so I did some online research and found http://www.ayso345.com/Okeeheelee_season.html
This is about a 15-20 min drive for us. Does anyone have their child(ren) in this league? This is a volunteer coaching group, is that OK? Does anyone/has anyone had their children involved with this group? If so, how did it go, etc?
Much appreciation for feedback.

Jer

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who has responded about age! Great to know. If anyone knows anything about this particular league, I'd be grateful for a response/honest opinion.

Hi J.,

I have used that league, last year in Homestead. They are very good, I don't know what age they start, my girl was 5. My son is autistic and they have a lot of patience with that, they do not allow pushing the children or parent's involvement, you know to push for winning and things like that. They just want the kids to have fun.

I hope this helps.

Hello mama..I have a four year old boy who just finished with soccer and he liked it. I found a great organization for him called Kraze Academy. It is located in Casselberry, so I'm not sure if this would be in your area. I would highly recommend them and you can find them on the web.

Hello J.,
I don't think 4 is too young at all. My son will be 3 in December and I'm signing him up for our city peewee league in January! My only caution is that I would never leave my child alone with a coach or even alone with other players and the coach. Always be able to see your child at games, practice, and "celebrations".

Also, to me, I wouldn't push kids that young to commit to a sport. If it turns out she doesn't like it, let it be. It's good to try a lot of different things and they won't like everything.

Absolutely Not. I have 3 children and I started them all in soccer at the age of 3-5 (depending upon where we lived at the time). They LOVED it. The learn team work, sportsmenship and it is a healty activity to get the kids away from the TV and outside in the fresh air. My oldest girl is playing soccer and volleyball in High school, my middle decided to play football and basketball instead (soccer and football have the same seasons) and my youngest is 5 and is going great. She has already played for 4 seasons (2 years..2 fall and 2 spring sessions). She will be starting kdg in the fall so we decided to put her in a program that is one night a week (Friday) and it is more of a fundamantal and technique based program for young players. She wants to play everything!!! If she plays it on the Wii...she wants to play it for real!!

Go For It!! It is so much fun!! I love watching them play!

City of West Palm beach offers a youth soccer program as well. Call the parks and rec on southern Blvd just east of I95
maybe that is closer. I do think they take four and five year olds. If she is into it its not too young. If she doesn't like it at least you tried and can take her out.

Hi J.,

My son will be 2 in a few weeks and we have him with my cousin's husband who is a soccer coach with small lessons in a group environment. I beleive if you see a talent/interest in a child it's our job to foster that within them - so the boy plays soccer (and swims).

Hope this helps!

Good morning,
I don't think this is to young at all. My 2 1/2 year old son just got done with a season of soccer and he had a ball. It was through our YMCA and no, they did not get some of the rules, but they had a blast, it was great exercise and he started learning how to play as a team.

My son tried it when he was 4 yrs, but he didn't care for it. It just wasn't his thing. There were plenty of other 4 yr olds out there that were having a great time, though. If she is "into" it, then by all means let her have at it. Just be sure and talk with the person(s) who will be coaching her and make sure that what you envision for your daughter (fun fun fun, not competition competition and win win win) is the same as the coach's, and try to get her on a team that is primarily also 4 yr olds. It isn't as much fun for the little ones if their team is dominated by older kids who are faster and more skilled (part of the reason I don't think my son cared for it.. his team - of 5- had one MUCH older player who ALWAYS was able to run, steal, score, etc before anybody else got a chance, and my son just tuned out).
If she is excited to play, let her go for it.
