Curious if you as wifes are the ones who will check the oil in your car and get oil changes or does your husband do it for you??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

LOL well you ladies are no help. I was trying to get the hubby to keep up on the oil changes in my car. I do the house and kids and work 40 hours a week. Thought he could at least be the responsible one to keep on top of it. After listening to most of you all, I don't really have a leg to stand on. LOL

I do it all. I take the car for routine maintenance. If he has too he will take the car in. But usually I do that along with grocery shopping and anything for the kids. He works many jobs just for us to stay afloat. I don't mind but sometimes I wish he would be able to do this too LOL.

I do it myself, because it's "my" car. Plus the quick lube place is minutes away from where I work. thanks for the reminder, I need one! :)

Cold weather-- I get the oil changed.

Warm weather--he does it himself.

He likes doing it because it's NOT a repair but maintence. He just spent three weekends doing brakes on my car and his truck. Saved us a TON of money!

I'm just like Xine. I don't check the fluids, but I will take it for the oil change several thousand miles after the little sticker on the window tells me I should.

I take our van in since I am the one that drives it 99.9% of the time. I also check the oil and trans oil levels and add washer fluid and antifreeze. He has to take care of his own and anything to do with getting the brakes fixed he arranges since I work M-F.

I am a big gurl and take care of my own car. :p Troy would take it in if I asked him but I would have to ask him or in other words know when it needs work done.

On the flip side he takes care of his car. No way I want to track down how many miles he has put on it, what noises it is making, when was the last time he did whatever.

I check my own as well as make appointments to get it done myself. It's my car. I also make the appointments for his car sometimes, as well as take the cars to the appointments, but our garage is near my parents so I visit while I wait.

I do it for the car I drive the most and my husband typically for his although sometimes I'll do his too. I can drop it at a station right near work and walk back and forth to get it so not like I have to sit there. But even if I did, I bet I'd be the one doing it most of the time...

LOL actually my truck lets me know. I have a chevy and the onstar emails me when service is needed. My husband actually takes it for service but only because he works for a chevy dealership, otherwise I would take it.

When I was single I would take take my car in for oil change and what ever else needed to be done. But after 4 years of marriage I can count on one hand how many times I have done that. DH changes the oil in his truck himself but my car takes a special tool to remove the skid plates that covers the whole undeside so he just takes it in. I wish he could do it because it costs over $100.00 to change the oil in my car. I used to change oil and all that stuff on my old truck I drove in highschool, my dad told me that if I wanted to drive I had to learn to maintain my truck.

before my inhome daycare, I handled the maintenance appts.

Now my DH does it.....& complains every single time.

Tough tookies......

As for checking fluids, the driver is responsible.....unless I'm running behind.

I used to do it before I got married. But I married a mechanic so he does it all. He feels anyway that as the husband he feels he should maintain the vehicles that his wife and children ride in to keep them safe. The last thing he'd want is his wife and children stranded on the side of the road alone. He knows I'm capable of doing it but he feels responsible for it and his family. He changes the oil himself. He doesn't like taking it down to Jiffy Lube or where ever because some of these chain places don't know what they're doing. If you get a reputable mechanic to do the work you can drive down yourself. I think it boils down to expectations from both husband and wife. If you both agree that he maintains the cars and takes out the trash, mows the law, while you do other things then that balances out. It is important to know how to take care of these things yourself but it makes me feel good that my husband is concerned about his family's well being and safety for him to tend to the vehicle maintenance. My husband is retired military so I've done my fair share while he was gone but before he'd leave on a deployment one of his jobs he chose to do was to make sure the vehicles were both in good working order before he left so that would be one less thing for me to worry about while he was away.

Generally we both just go by the miles that the sticker on it says. I do both cars since hubby has a busy schedule. He just lets me know when his is due, I call and make the appointment and then we switch cars for the day since I can sit around and wait for it and he can't since he has full work days. But he takes my van in after work sometimes and goes thru the car wash and vaccuums it for me and even cleans out the inside with all the clothes, toys, shoes and trash, which I never do!

Wishful thinking....my hubby does nothing to help with my car. I have to see it gets to the garage for maintenance. He is at least kind enough to pick me up so I don't have to wait. I too work full-time (am the much higher paid of the 2 of us besides), do 99% of the housework and most of the care for our 3 year-old. Is it any wonder why I am procrastinating TTC #2?!?!?!

I check the oil and keep up on when it needs changed as im the one that drives my car the most. Im known to pick out problems in my car that my husband and his friend who is a mechanic will tell me Im nuts then it breaks. lol So now they learned its better to trust my judgement. My dad made sure I was able to change my oil, check all the fluids, change breaks and change a tire before I was even allowed to get my permit. It saves alot of money if it can be done at home!
