We were originally planning a vacation to Sandusky/Toledo - Cedar Point and surrounding area. I just received some info on Cincinnati/Dayton - Kings Island and Beach Waterpark. Does anyone know about either and which may be a better choice for vacation with the kids (8 and 6)? Which area has more to do? Any info/suggestions would be great. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I grew up about 45 minutes from Sandusky. There is so much to do in that area, Cedar Point and Soak City, The Ghostly Manor, Kalahari, Castaway Bay, Kelleys Island, Great Wolfe Lodge, Adventure Bay, African Safari, there are lots of lighthouses and bike trails too.

I vote Sandusky, you won't be bored. My husband and I live in Missouri now but when our kids are older (2 and 3 1/2) we will start going on vacation in Sandusky instead of Branson.

I have only been to Kings Island once. I grew up just south of Sandusky, so I might be a little biased. I say Cedar Point. There are tons of rides for the kids. Your 8 year old, depending on how tall s/he is would be able to ride some of the roller coasters.

I also used to work at Cedar Point. If you stay at the park, you get a discount on the tickets to the parks. (They also have a water park.) When we were up there this past month, we stayed just up the road at the Kalahari. It's an indoor waterpark and totally worth it.

Have fun!

I live in suburban Toledo and my thought is...with kids that little, you would have a better time in Cinci at Kings Island. We visit Cedar Point every year and love it. One year we decided to go to Kings Island instead. My oldest two (we didn't take the 3rd and I was pregnant with the 4th) were 8 & 5 at the time. Kings Island has so much more for kids in that age range. While Cedar Point does have Camp Snoopy, its mostly rides for toddler aged kids. Mostly like the little cars that go round and round. Kings Island had twice as many rides for kids to begin with and they were designed for kids a bit older, but not quite old/big enough to ride the "big" rides. Now, my oldest was able to ride many of the regular coasters with my husband because she was tall enough. I even enjoyed riding the kiddy rides with the younger one. They also have a water park that is attached to the park and included with your ticket. Cedar Point has a water park too, but its a separate place requiring a separate ticket. All of the other waterparks mentioned also require their own entry fee, and some require hotel stay (Great Wolf Lodge). On the other hand, Kalahari in Sandusky is a massive resort/water park. You could easily spend 2 days there and never get bored. They have anything from the water park to an adventure course with zip lines and rock walls, to a petting zoo, to a spa/salon. They have a huge arcade, a bowling alley and mini golf course. They also have lots of different food options that are surprisingly reasonably priced compared to other places. If you're looking for the outdoor amusment park, I'd go with Kings Island this year and save Cedar Point until both kids are at least 54" tall (they can both ride every ride at that point). If you'd like the water park idea better, check into Kalahari.

I live in Sandusky. My girls (13 and 8) have been to both CP and KI. Both prefer the rides at CP.

There are plenty of non-coaster, non-toddler rides at CP to keep your kids happy. If they like coasters, there are some that they should be able to go on depending on their height.

Kings Island is about a football throw away from my home. We have season passes, and we LOVE it. Kings Island has a fantastic water park- so skip the Beach all together. Kings Island has it all. The rides for your childrens age group are endless. (Purchase tickets online, or walk into a Kroger store before you go to get cheaper tickets! Don't pay full price at the window!) One suggestion I would make would be to stay at the Great Wolf Lodge, if you can. Even only if for 1 night. It is a really cool place, and it's steps way from Kings Island. If you have the time for several days here, the Cincinnati Zoo is awesome too.

I lived in Toledo for 4 years, and I admit I have never been to Ceder Point. (Yes, that is shocking.)

I worked with college students from all over Ohio, and while they often debated about who had the better chili (Dayton/Cincinnati or Cleveland), there was never doubt that Cedar Point was the best.

The only thing I will say is that there is probably more to do in Cincinnati than in Toledo, but Toledo has the Mudhens and a fabulous zoo.

Have fun!
