Amy,

I am an RN and childbirth doula and I know several really good ob's that deliver at 'Big Baylor'.

Please email me and let me know what you are looking for and that will help narrow it down.

I hate to say this, but I would not go to any doctor with WHA. They're very nice and very knowledgeable, and they took good care of me when I lost my twins once I actually got to the hospital, but the care before that was a bit too lackadaisical. With more aggressive monitoring, bedrest, or even a cerclage, I honestly believe I could have made it with my twin pregnancy to a point of survivability. None of those things were ever even suggested by my WHA doctor, even after a bleeding scare (I mean a sudden rush of blood, blood-soaked blue jeans, and a blood clot the size of a mango) at 13 weeks. Since the babies looked fine on the sono after I rushed in tears to my doctor's office, they just told me to take it easy for the next few weeks, which I did. At 20 weeks, I lost my babies.

WHA is very laid-back, which is great if you want natural childbirth (which I did with my first and only living child's birth, and I'll give WHA credit for getting me through that pregnancy), but if you need someone to stay on top of things and pull out all the stops to get you a live baby, I cannot recommend WHA. When I consulted with a perinatologist at Baylor after losing my twins, he tried to tell me that WHA was fine and the doctors are great. When I further explained to him that as my water broke at 20 weeks and I was heading to the hospital, the WHA doctor on call suggested that I go home and lie down and see if it was just a bladder incident, the perinatologist got it instantly. I know what amniotic fluid smells like (sorry if that's gross, but it's true--it's not like urine). I knew what was happening. Of course I told my husband to keep driving, but to me that sums up the WHA experience. They think it'll all be okay and want to reassure you that it'll be okay. Until it isn't. Then they're very sad and kind, but you're the one left with dead babies.

Sorry to make this so long, and if you have no trouble conceiving or carrying babies, WHA will be fine for you. If you think you may have any problems, find another practice. There are plenty of good doctors who deliver at Baylor downtown.

By the way, the Baylor L&D nurses are all fantastic, whether you're getting a live baby or two dead ones. Very caring and helpful. I have nothing but great respect and admiration and affection for all of the nurses I've met there. They'll take excellent care of you and your baby.

My girlfriend and her mom use Dr. Glen Heckman, who practices at an office close to Baylor Dallas downtown, so I assume he has hospital privledges there too. I don't see him personally, but I know they have used him for a long time and LOVE him.

I love my OBGYN. I've been to him for over 10 years now, and just delivered my first baby at Baylor this year. Their office is great. It's across the street from Baylor at 712 North Washington, Ste 250

Other 2 docs who are in his office are great as well:
Steven Harris, MD and Glen Heckman, MD
Baylor is the best place ever!! Lots and lots of fantastic nurses. They were so helpful. Also, if you happen to be there on the weekend, ask for a lactation consultant named Theresa---she is the BEST and I think only works on Saturdays and Sundays.

I would highly recommend my OB. After a horrible experience with my first pregnancy, I shopped around and found her. She delivered my last two children. Her staff is great too. I hope you find what you are looking for!

My doctor is Dr. Tracy Hays. Love her and and she delivers at Baylor downtown. The whole practice is great, too. Her office is at 1311 Washington, just down the street from the hospital. Super listener and very cheerful. People at the office are also very nice. Baylor nurses were great for my delivery.

I highly recommend OB/GYN Associates of Dallas, the practice of Drs. Sandra Brothers and Melissa Crochet. Dr. Brothers is my OB and delivered my 5-month-old, but Dr. Crochet delivered my older son. Both are wonderful, and the staff is great too. I did natural childbirth with both of my babies, but I know they would be 100% supportive of whatever approach you choose.

They are located in the Landry Center a block away from the main hospital. Good luck with your pregnancy and congrats!

I would highly recommend Dr Robert Inzer at Womens health Alliance. He works out of Baylor and Mesquite. I have been seeing him for several years and he delivered my 3 month in September and he was wonderful. My last pregnancy was less than perfect and he took all those issues into account with this one and took extra care. This turned out to be my best and easiest pregnancy out of 3. Good Luck with your decision and if you have any questions just ask.
PS The L&D nurses at baylor are WONDERFUL and very attentive.

Dr. Robert Inzer at Women's Health Alliance is awesome! But any ob/gyn at WHA would be a great choice. In addition to their office at Baylor Downtown, they have an office at Baylor Mesquite (30 and Galloway). Good luck!

Amy,

I am going to just echo what the other ladies spoke of about the doctors at the Women's Health Alliance. I love all the doctor's there. My doctor is Dr. Inzer and he is awesome. I have had many horrible experiences with other doctors and their offices but not with WHA. I delivered my daughter at Baylor last August and had a great experience. Dr. Inzer was out of town when I went into labor. I was 10 days early. I was met at 1am in the morning by the doctor on call ( Rachel Kurian) and let me tell you...she put me at ease real fast and my daughter was born at 3:11am and it all went smoothly. Dr. Norwood visited me in the hospital and his bedside manners were wonderful. All the doctors at WHA are great.

Good Luck!!

My OB delivers at Baylor Downtown. You might think I'm a little "wacky" because of why I like my OB. I recommend her to everyone. She let me go past my estimated due date (EDD) with both kids. If you don't want a lot of interventions, she's good with that. I'm pretty natural with my beliefs, and she went with that. She wasn't all freaked about me being overweight before, after or during pregnancy either. She's a DO, not an MD, so she's more naturally minded. She practices at Baylor downtown, and I believe it is the BEST hospital in the metroplex. I had a c-section with my first and she let me VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean), which most doctors are leery of doing now in this litigious society.
My Dr. is Elizabeth Stevenson. Also, her partner, Maria Reyes, is bilingual and is like-minded with Stevenson.

We are conveniently located in the Baylor Health Center on the northwest corner of Park Lane and North Central Expressway (I75).

Dr. Norwood. I just love him and he made my husband very comfortable. He was the on call doctor when I delivered my son 8 weeks early. My husband begged me to switch OB/Gyn's and as fate would have it, my previous doctor moved. And whoever you choose, delivering at "big" Baylor is a great decision!!!!

Dr. Norwood at Women's Health Alliance would be my choice. Very kind, laid back, but very good at what he does. An excellent surgeon too, if you wind up needing surgery. He does not rush you through and is respectful of your wishes.

I loved Dr. Ehmer! He is with Heckman and Harris right across the street from Baylor. I used Dr. Gunby my first time and his partner Dr. Paine (sp) actually delivered. I wasn't that happy with the whole situation. Whatever you do, insist that your doc does EVERYTHING! Baylor is a teaching hospital and sometimes the doc will hand off to one of the residents...such as sewing your epesiotomy. Just FYI. Good luck!
