OB Recommendations in Memphis Who Support VBAC

I don't plan on having my second child until another year or two, but I DO plan on having a VBAC if physically possible. Since I was horribly displeased with my last OB's office and all her partners (they rolled over my entire birth plan, they all had terrible bedside manners, and during my L/D and in the 5 days I was in the hospital after my C-section, my OB never once came to see me or even call to see how I was doing. I only saw her at my 2 week follow up), I'm looking for a new OB (male or female) that would support my desire to have a VBAC if I can. Of course, I may find that I can't if they put the incision in the wrong place, but if I can, I want a doctor who will be very supportive.

Does anyone have a recommendation for one? Thank you in advance!

What can I do next?

Well, my doc wasn't completely supportive of a vbac but was willing to let me try since my first c-section was done because of fetal distress which turned out to be from the cord around his neck and not from a morphological problem. She was my doctor for my first too and knew how the c-section was done. I ended up having a 2nd c-section anyway because at 39 weeks I been holding at 1cm dilated and only slightly effaced for 3 weeks. She didn't think my body would progress any more on its own so I agreed to the c-section. I probably could have insisted and waited longer but I was miserable with gestational diabetes for the 2nd time and what turned out to be a 2nd 9 lbs baby. My doc is excellent though, but very business like and no-nonsense, no hand holding or coddling from her. That said, I completely trust her with my life, the life of my unborn child, and to give it to me straight with no sugarcoating. My husband didn't like her the 1st time around but after watching her perform the 1st c-section, he said he would trust her again with our lives. She is by herself in a practice and sometimes so busy she doesn't take new patience so I don't know if she is now. Dr. Tanja Todd on Capital Drive.

When my OB with my first baby left her clinic to open her own practice, she no longer did L/D. So on a recommendation, when I got pregnant again I went to Dr. Joseph Dewane. I was also concerned that he supported VBAC as I had a c-section with my first and don't want to do that again if possible. He absolutely does support it. I never got that far unfortunately due to miscarriage but I'll definitely go back to him when that time comes around again. Good Luck!

My OB/GYN is Dr. Betty Jo Dulaney. She is FABULOUS! I wanted to have a vaginal delivery with my first but she ended up being too big for my small body so I ended up with a c-section. After that I had asked her if with the next one I could try vagianl again and she was VERY supportive of that. My only problem with trying that is that I had to be induced with the first one and they can't induce you if you have had a c-section. Her office staff is great! I was high risk and had tons of problems so I had to call a bunch. I always got an answer fairly quickly and they have always been kind. She has 2 offices, one @ Baptist on Walnut Grove and one at Methodist Germantown. I recommend the Baptist office, I just like the staff better! Good luck!

My daughter had a wonderful experience with her OBGYN. I'm not sure on his opinion on vaginal births after c-sections, but he was a very good Dr to her, and she felt wonderful after each visit to his office, b/c she was usually worried or blue, b/c she had some problems with the baby. His name is Dr Greenwell, and he has an office at Germantown Methodist, and Baptist Womens health Center, I think it's called..at least this is a place to start inquiring at....N. B

I second Dr. Greenwell. He is amazing. He delivered both of my children. I had un uncomplicated vaginal delivery with my daughter, an emergency c-section with my son, and am planning to VBAC in October. He is very supportive and has a great bedside manner. He called me and came to visit even when he wasn't supposed to be rounding just to check up on me after my em. c-section.
