Can anyone recommend a great doctor that delivers at St. Josephs? I delivered my daughter there, and loved it! I'd like to go there for my next one, but I would like to find a new OB. I went to Metro obgyn and wasn't impressed last time.

What can I do next?

I had a midwife as well with Health East. I went to the Macalaster-Groveland clinic and delivered at St. Josephs.

I work at St. Joe's Maternity Care Center, and can recommend some great people to you. If you prefer a lower intervention, and really want one-on-one for labor/delivery I recommend the HealthEast midwives. If you are a higher risk pregnancy - Dr. Amy Kelly is great. For normal run of the mill OB's Dr. English is absoultely great! My personal experience has been with Dr. Jackie Mahan at Comprehensive Health Care for Women in Woodbury. She is great but generally only does deliveries at Woodwinds (low risk) and John's (higher risk).
Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions. Glad to hear that you were happy with your birth experience at Joe's!

I second Dr. Less! He's the best! When I was pregnant with my son I asked him how many of his patient's births he attended and it was greater than 95% or something like that. Go figure, he was doing surgery and missed my son's birth. He came right over afterward and apologized profusely. He is so nice and so caring. I know he has an office right by St. Joseph's (as mentioned below), but I see him at the Maplewood Metro OB/GYN office. I know you weren't impressed there before, but not sure who you went to or which office you used. It may be worth another try. I especially liked that they bill one fee for labor/delivery. Because of this, you can go in as many times as you need to or have as many ultrasounds as you'd like without being billed extra or having to be worried about insurance coverage. Their office wasn't the fanciest, but the care I received was outstanding. Sorry to hear of your past problems. Best of luck!

Sure! I go to Comprehensive Healthcare for Women in Woodbury. It's located off of Valley Creek and Woodlane Drive. They are on Woodlane Drive. They have a handful of doctors and one women doctor. I recommened her or Sam Arnold.

I see a midwife (not OBGYN) at Healtheast Woodbury Clinic which is located in Woodwinds Hospital (I delivered my daughter at Woodwinds and will deliver my next daughter there in August but they also go to St. Johns & St. Joes). The midwives are GREAT!! But if you want a doctor they have them there too. Good luck!

I have one name for you... Dr Less. His office is in the gallery building in saint paul across from St. Josephs hospital. He started out seeing him when I was pregnant with my son but due to insurance issues we had to stop going to him. Loved going to Dr. Less his staff was so nice and so was he.

you went to metro obgyn? thats where i go? who did you see??? There are a few docs I don't care for ....pretty much all the males. I love Dr. Annette Mies who I see. I have seen Dr. Amy kelly. If you didn't see one of them.....I would suggest it. One thing though....with dr. mies...get her earliest appointment. She tends to run late. I've even called to see how far behind she is before leaving to see her. but she is FANTASTIC and I WILL NOT see anyone else for my next child and for regular check ups! hope it helps

Another idea for delivering at St. Josephs are the midwives at Generations Womens Clinic. I saw Mary and Edi (they have since added a third) and Mary delivered my son at St. Joe's in their birthing tub and it was perfect. They are a small office and I NEVER waited more than 5 minutes before the nurse (Joanie - also great) was ready to start my visit. Once I waited about 15 minutes for the midwife, and once they had to reschedule due to labor but you have to expect that sometimes! Plus, they welcomed my older son on the visits which made it very easy for me. They always remembered his name, and were totally understanding of any time I needed to attend to him during a visit. They do all your labs and any ultrasounds in their office, which is also really nice. No extra appointments or driving around to other locations.

Their office is in Shoreview right off Lexington and 694. There is a OB in their office, but I never saw her. I've heard she is good though. Here is their info:

Edi Weiss-Holzbauer, CNM and Mary Hayes CNMs
Generations Women's Health Center under the guidance of Dr. Laura France
1030 West County Rd E.
Shoreview, MN

I can not recommend them more. My first son was born after a long (36 hour) drawn out pitocin induced hell (imagine the intervention - I had it), and my second was 12 hours of natural labor and a peaceful underwater delivery. Both boys were 41+ weeks, but the midwives let me go until my body was ready, which was great.

Good luck!
