NW OKC- Edmond area--Where Is the Best Place to Deliver?

I'm still in my first trimester of pregnancy, but am trying to decide where to have my baby at. From looking on-line it looks like Mercy or Lakeside would be the nicest place, but I'm not sure. I'm looking for advice on where you've had your baby delivered and what you liked and disliked about that place. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I LOVED Lakeside Women's Hospital off of Hefner Pkwy and Hefner Rd. I couldn't have asked for a better stay! I would highly recommend it.

Mercy Hospital is awesome. I delivered my son and daughter there. They were always friendly and helpful. As a matter of fact we drove all the way there from Moore since we didn't like any of the other hospital choices nearby and the Moore hospital was still new. My child in the middle was born at St Anthony's Hospital. I was not at all pleased with my experience there. Hope this helps.

A little about me: Stay at Home Mom of 3, ages 10, 8, and 2. Married to my high school sweetheart and very happy.

Those would be the best two places in my oppinion. I would tour both and see what you think. Lakeside will be more quiet and have less of a hospital feel. I love that the Drs are onsite during the day and can stop by your room before and after to check on you. First two babies born at this facility and I loved it. Mercy has a top-notch delivery unit and is fully prepared for any emergency. (Lakeside will transfer you before delivery or transfer the baby after delivery if anything major and unexpected happens - this is rare.) Third baby was at Mercy due to insurance issues and this went well too. Just more of a hospital feel and all the burocracy that goes along with that.
BIG ISSUE - where does your Dr have delivery rights and where does your insurance cover?

I had my oldest at lakeside and i really was not that happy with anything that happened there. My son had breathing problems when he was born and no one told me that they didnt have a nicu wing so he was transported to Baptist. I had lots of problems with my nurses that including me in on what was happening or just not talking to me. I had my second child at Baptist and i was so blown away at all the great things that they did for us. I really dont have any experience with Mercy.

I delivered at Mercy and loved it! The labor and delivery nurses were all very nice. And the lactation consultants were very helpful too. I went to Lakeside originally and didn’t like it. I have heard about a lot of bad experiences there too.

From the perspective of not having "normal" deliveries, I would NOT recommend Lakeside. Someone else mentioned them not have a NICU. Should something go wrong, you stay there and your baby goes to Baptist or another hospital with a NICU. I recommend Mercy. I had two deliveries there and was pleased with both.

Hi E., I had my daughter at Lakeside and absolutly loved it there! It was very comfortable and "homey" and the nurses where great! It is also a comfort to know that all the doctors are right upstairs if you need anything!

Hey E.,
I've never delivered in Oklahoma, my girls were born in Arkansas, BUT I have to say that Mercy is the way to go. Really either place is the best. I am a nurse at Mercy and I am partial to that place. From a nurses point of view, Lakeside is great and they are set up to handle any type of emergency, but just by chance if your little one needs to spend anytime in the NICU, Mercy has one of the best in town besides OU. And they just expanded and opened or soon will open their brand new state of the art NICU all private rooms. So both you and baby can be in the same room. I love Mercy and if I ever have another one I'll be delivering there. Good luck!!!
