NuvaRing Vs DepoVera

Has or is anyone on these types of birth control? I started the Ring and have had my period for two weeks now. My Dr said that it is normal, but the website for the product indicates it should have stopped when I started it. My Dr also suggested that I start Depo but chose this first because it did not have a "weight gain" side effect. Any insight or experiences with these types of birth control is appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So far I have bled the entire first month on the ring. I'm giving it at least 3 months to allow my body to adjust. My new doctor does not recommend Depo due to recent reports of blood clotting (I am high risk, age and Diabetic). If I am still uncomfortable with the ring, then I will try Mirena IUD, recommend if I don't plan to have kids for a while. Thanks for all the advice.

I know it's late, but I wanted to voice my experience. I have always had problems with estrogen based pills-I hated myself b/c of the severe mood swings. I have tried both the Depo & NuvaRing & had good results with the Depo for six years pre-baby, no period when taking regularly, but spotting after the 14-15th week. However post-baby I was good while breastfeeding, but after breastfeeding I bled on the shot the entire time. You think two weeks is bad, try twelve :(
Needless to say I tried the ring after the horrible twelve week event & it worked out great. My cycle was very normal & the first month I decided not to use it I got pregnant :)

I did not like the Ring, It was uncomfortable and difficult to remember. Dep was so awsome no period and so easy. Weight gain is a problem for any method. The one thing I did not like about Depo was that it depleats your calcium leading to potential bone loss.

I've been on both.
The nuva ring actually fell out when I went to the bathroom. And I could feel it, even though they say you don't.
As for the shot, it really messes with your body. My husband and I have been trying for baby #2 for well over a year now, and have been unsuccessful.
I didn't even get my period back until June.
If you think you might have more children, don't get the shot!
Also, my little sister was on the shot for awhile, and she ended up getting a blood clot that traveled up to her eye. She now has permanent damage to her right eye. If it was both her eyes she would be legally blind.
DO NOT GET THE DEPO PROVERA SHOT, it really screws with your body.
My friend has the Mirena IUD and loves it.

Hi, I tried the NuvaRing also, but found out that it gave me IBS, Irritable bowel syndrome. So I had to stop. ANd one of my friends also tried it but found out it was too difficult for her to put in, b/c she has a tilted cervic. I have never tried the DepoVera.

I like the patch. I was afraid that the ring would fall out and I wouldn't even notice and the next day I would be pregnant. :) I've heard from alot of people that the shot made them gain weight. I have no side effects from the patch. And I know where it is. I put it on once a week, and have forgotten a couple of times....luckily its not like the pill...if you forget, you have to start all over again.

What's funny is that I used the Depo and had my period every single day for 3 months. so I got off of it. I think you would have to keep trying and see what would be best for your body. I use the IUD right now and it works for me. Good luck.

I have the Mirena IUD. Not exactly your question, but I've used it with great success. My period is just about non-existent, and with that my emotions are pretty even keal. I had major mood issues on the pill, so I'm thrilled...

Hi M. - I was on depo before and after concieving and delivering my twin boys. Now have chosen to have the Mirena IUD. I didn't gain weight with depo nor did i have any side effects, either with the mirena.

I say talk with your dr about ALL options and see what is best for you. you could always try depo for one cycle and if you don't like it go to something else.

i've been on nuva ring for a couple years now (pre & post baby) and i L. it. when its inserted properly you shouldn't feel it, nor should it slip out. if it does come out, you rinse & reinsert.

i think what you are experiencing right now with the ring is happening because your body is adjusting. my flow is actually very light and very short (no more than 3 solid days and a day of spotting).

i know a "depo" baby. so i'll never ever...never ever take that or recommend that for BC. good luck!
