Nursing - No Period

My son is 12 months old and still nursing. I have not had a period yet and am wondering when I will get it! With my first son, I got my period after 8 months and was still nursing him. Do you get your period later with your second baby? We would like to start trying for another baby at the end of the year.

What can I do next?

I got pregnant when I was still nursing my daughter at 6 months and I don't think I'd had a period. I don't think there are any hard and fast rules about when you will get your period again. It wouldn't hurt to try, anyway!

Ditto Jodee's response.

Every pregnancy/nursing is different. My sister-in-law got pregnant during nursing time, and just thought she just hadn't gotten her period yet... until the morning sickness came and she took a pregnancy test. So never know! Good luck... and remember to have fun trying!! :-)

I didn't get my first cycle until 2 months after weaning. My son wasn't even nursing all that much, quantity wise.

Your hormone levels can be different with every pregnancy just like your nine months of pregnancy can be different each time. You tend to have more hormones and a higher milk supply with your second baby. When you stop breast feeding your period will most likely follow. Just keep in mind too that just because you do not have a period does not mean you can not get pregnant. You can ovulate anytime, and could be right now and not know it.

Best of luck with number three!

I agree with Jodee - every pregnancy is different. For me, I had a nice 6 months of no period after baby #1, but then with baby #2 I got my period immediately (seriously, it was within a month, ugggggh), despite exclusively breastfeeding both times. So... I don't think there's any rhyme or reason to the hormonal roller coaster! Good luck with your boys, and with future baby #3!
