I am trying to put together my daughter's nursery while being on bed rest. I do not want to purchase the big items like the crib or changing table because I cannot see the quality of the items via the internet. Any suggestions on great cribs, changing tables or other nursery must haves?

I agree with J., the solid cribs and ones that turn into toddler beds are great! I love ours, my only complaint with it is because it doesn’t slide down I have a REALLY hard time getting my son in it when he is sleeping with out waking him up. I am short (5'3) and can’t reach smoothly all the way down (even worse since we had to lower the mattress), it was painful getting him in and out of bed after my c-section but I still don’t think I would trade it. As for changing tables we bought a playpen with a changing table and it has been wonderful! we were able to put it in a convienent location (the living room) so we have more room in his room for more important things and now that he's bigger he loves the playpen part too. So for the same price we got two for one.

For us the nursery must have was a big comfy chair! It matches his room and is comfy enough to kick back in and cuddle while reading a book or middle of the night feedings, I originally had a rocking chair but due to the c-section I found it really hard to get comfortable in it with him. We got ours at goodwill for $40 and it was the BEST purchase we made!

I’m sorry your on best rest, that’s really hard, I was too the last two weeks of my pregnancy and hated depending on my husband for everything! I just wanted to make sure the house was perfect and everything was ready for the little guy!
Good Luck!

J.,
Im sorry to hear that you are on bed rest, but hopefully everything will work out well for you. As far as baby furniture goes, you are so right! Its is very hard to chose from pictures. Well, how much are you looking to spend. I would have to say that the cribs that are solid (meaning they don't have the front bar that slides down) and ones that convert to toddler beds and then full size beds are the best. They are usually very solid. JC Penny's and Babies R Us have mostly good quality cribs. My email is ____@____.com if you have some in mind you can email me links to the page and I'll let you know if I know anything about them. I just spent 3 days nursery shopping with my bestfriend. ;o)

Hi J.,

Congratulations on a suddenly big family! I hope all continues to go well with this pregnancy.

What we did for our nursery was go to Ikea. They have a collection of furniture called Malm that is great. We choose the 6 drawer chest and the three drawer chest and a night stand. This is kind of contemporary styled fruniture and the birch finish is very neutral. We use the chest to store our sons clothes. The three drawer chest is the perfect height for a changing table and we simply laid a contoured pad on top and use the top drawer for diapering supplies and the other two for sheets and blankets. It has worked perfectly for us and will continue to provide storage long after the nursery is no longer needed. The price was less than $300 for all three pieces. Most baby store charge more than that for a changing table alone that cant be used for anything else once baby is bigger. Ikea also has good quality cribs that aren't too expensive and they will deliver right to your door. I think that they are worth checking out so give them a look over.
