NTI Tss Needing Any Information on the Night Dental Guard to Prevent Grinding

I have the one that fits over just your front teeth - the dentist molds it for you. I've had it for about a year now, and I would highly recommend it. I would grit my teeth in my sleep and have had several actually develop cracks because of it. No new cracks in my teeth and the existing ones have not worsened since I got the guard on. That right there is worth it in repair costs to my teeth! It took about 2 weeks to get used to tho. The first night you wear it, you'll regret getting it and think there is no way you can sleep with it in. But trust me - 3-4 days you'll be more used to it, and within 2 weeks you won't even notice it.

my mouthguard does not prevent grinding. It just greatly reduces the effects of grinding. Mine is absolutely necessary. You may want to try a cheap sportsguard one or one you can buy at the pharmacy for ten bucks first. My friend's husband uses a football one and swears by it.

I don't know if mine is that exact kind, but I've had a dental guard for the last 8 years. It works really well for me. It keeps me from doing damage while grinding, and it also helped with my neck/headaches because it keeps me from clenching my jaw all day (I only wear it at night). I think that the extra thing between my teeth all night sets my bite a little further apart, so that I don't clench. I got mine for free from a very kind dentist, but I would definitely pay for a replacement if I needed one.

I know its pricy but it will help. You won't stop grinding therefore it is made to be thick so you will grind on it rather then wearing your teeth down. Think of this enamel on your teeth is stronger than diamonds. You are using a lot of pressure to grind your teeth. Grind teeth are not pretty and often the dentist needs to smooth them down. Your teeth will become weaker and sensitive and will have a tendency to chip.You could also start to have TMJ problems. You will need to get use to wearing it at night. I'm not sure but you may be able to try an over the counter product to see how you like it. It won't last very long because it won't be custom to your bite or thick enough. Good luck!

I've used a night guard for years...and yes it was pricey but worth every penny. I would clench my teeth at night and wake up with a headache that lasted all day. Oddly, I never even knew that I was grinding/clenching until my dentist told me.
