I do plan on calling the doctor in the morning, but I'm not sure about a rash that showed up on my son and was maybe looking for a little input. Yesterday, when my husband was changing the baby, he noticed a rash on the front, around his legs, and on his little butt. Then, upon further investigation, we found little bumps on his toes, feet, knees, hands and elbows. He is on an antibiotic, but when I called the doctor's line, they don't believe it sounds like he's developed an allergic reaction. My son is running a very low grade temperature, too.
We haven't switched laundry soaps, bath soaps, or anything else. We did change diapers, but we just switched back to Swaddlers. But since it's on other areas of his body, I don't think it was that. It doesn't seem to bother him or itch, but it worries me. Any suggestions that maybe I could bring up at the doctor's or even research myself? Thanks!!

It is hand, foot & mouth disease, although the doctor said he likes to call it "hand, foot, mouth & butt" since it shows up there, too. He said my son's case is a real aggressive form and he's surprised that he doesn't have a fever (it was 98.3º today). Since he's still getting some new sores, he's out of daycare until at least Wednesday, and even that is questionable, the doctor said. Most of these sores are in the butt area, although he's got quite a few on his feet that are starting to blister.

Another update, the bumps are starting to go away!!
My son developed hand, foot mouth disease also called 5th's disease. It showed up like that.... a bunch of little red bumps all over his body. Concentrated at the hand, foot and on his butt. It didn't itch him or seem to bother him. some kids get stuff in their mouth but my son just got the rash. I thought it was an allergic reaction too but it wasn't... he caught it at his mothers morning out. it was gone in about a week.

It's hand foot & mouth disease. A viral infection that just needs to run it's course. My son has had it several times now. You can take him to the Dr. for official diagnosis but there's nothing else that you can do. Just keep him away from other kids until he's been fever free for 24 hours.
When my little girl was a baby she would get a rash that would soon turn dry and flaky. My doctor said it was ecsema. He prescribed eledel. It's a thick cream. She also had sensitive skin, and contact alergies. perfumes, and even some foods that touched her skin would break her out. She loves tomatoes and she eats them, but if I don't wash her face immediatly she get a rash. Could the fever be from what ever he is on the antibiotic for?
I agree that Benadryl is a good idea. A couple of doses until you get in to the dr. won't hurt.
If the bumps are red with a white ring around them and go away for a couple of seconds after you press on them and then they come back, it's probably a viral rash. The low grade fever may be part of that, too.
The good thing is that although it can be all over the child's body, and look terrible, it's not itchy. Also, the other good thing is that it's usually at the end of a viral infection and seems to come after the fever breaks (if the child had one)and the child starts feeling better.
Both of my kids get these; my daughter is almost 4 and still gets them every once in a while.

This happened to my son. It was Roseola. Just a virus that comes after being sick. It ran it's course and disappeared. It didn't hurt him or seem to itch - it looked worse than it was. There are several websites to check out.

My son had the very same kind of rash when he was about 8 months old. He had been taking amoxicillin for an ear infection and was about five days into the treatment. I took him to the pediatrician and she said it was an allergic reaction and to start giving him Benadryl. She started him on a different class of antibiotic and he didn't have a reaction to that.
It sounds like Benadryl may be the way to go. Hope everything works out well for you tomorrow!

I remember my daughter having a very similar rash. I took her to the dr. and they called it a virual rash. There was nothing to do for her... and luckily they didn't seem to bother her. With time they went away.
Maybe that's what your son has??
I agree about the Benadryl and definetly take him in to have it looked at if it does not go away
even though the docs dont think it could be related to the antibiotics, it very well could be, you could try a little benedryl to see if that works.
I would certainly give your doctor a call. My daughter had a similar reaction to one of the anitibotics they had her on after her surgery. Come to find out she was allergic to it. Within a couple of days after they took her off of it the rash was gone.

It is not hand, foot, mouth disease. My 17 month old had a weird red, bumpy rash that started on his bottom and spread to his thighs, face, legs, etc....he obviously contracted it from daycare where other babies had it too....well I took him to the pediatrician, she advised me that hand, foot, mouth (also called 5th disease) are ulcer like blisters on the hands and feet and also ulcer like sores in the mouth. Unless your baby has what I described- then it is not hand,foot,mouth disease. My pediatrician told me it was a viral rash, nothing to be worried about, prescribed no medication and it cleared up within 3 days. He also had a low grade fever with it for 2 days. So, unless you see ulcer sores in baby's mouth- dont worry about the rash. :) Hope this helps.
