Not Going to Antigua

Ok, so last week I had thought I wanted to go to Antigua, but after the many comments, I'm thinking this might be a better adult trip than one with small children. We are now considering Florida? No, not Disney World because they are still too young to enjoy the many facets of Mickey Mouse. Just some place that has nice beaches, clear water and will be away from the MidWest (no offense). I want to feel like I'm going on vacation.

Everyone was so helpful with their opinions I was thinking you guys might have some good suggestions.

Thanks!

We have enjoyed Hollywood, Florida for the beaches and the boardwalk. And its only about 1/2 hour from Miami where you can get the best Cuban food! Oh and the Mojitos!

Hi! I have vacationed in the panhandle (Gulf) of Florida since I was 12 years old. The areas of Destin, Sandestin and Seaside are amazing. The beaches look like the Caribbean. There are tons of small houses, condos and hotels for rent in the area. Check out: www.vrbo.com, www.sandestin.com and www.cottagerentalagency.com. It is such a gorgeous, family-friendly area.

HI! We have been going to Deerfield Beach in Florida with our daughter. It's about 20 miles from the Ft. Lauderdale airport. We stay at Embassy Suites. It's really nice & family friendly & right on the beach.

Good Luck!

Sanibel Island. We are going next month and have been there many times. Very relaxing. Fly into Ft. Myers and we have always stayed at Pointe Santo de Sanibel which are all condos so it's great with kids. Right on the beach, washer & dryer in unit, pool with club house that has kid activities and the best shelling in the world.

Greetings!! Their are several nice family friendly beaches in the Gulf. of Mexico. Also, if you want to go somewhere a little more "exotic" how about Hawaii? Maui is very family friendly; Marriott has some great family resorts in Maui and Kuai. My sister has been taking her 3 kids (now ages 6 1/2, 5, and 2 1/2) to Marriott Poipou and/or Lihue on Kuai(both spelled wrong?) since the oldest was 6 months old!! They have a blast. Lots of kids programs and clean gorgeous beaches! That might be a nice compromise between Antigua and Florida!!

Siesta Key is gorgeous with the very best beach for kids -- the finest while sand and you can walk way, way out into the water and still only be up to your knees. It's almost like a funky CA beach town - not so high rise-y and golf oriented. Sarasota is not far away and there are some neat things to do there. Pick a hotel with a pool and easy beach access and you'll be set.

We also like the Naples area. It's got a cute zoo that the kids might like and a great artsy, downtown with excellent restaurants. It's upscale but everything's kid-friendly as there are so many kids vacationing down there.

Have a great trip!
