Not complaining...just Wondering

My 21 month old son still takes 2 naps a day, and sleeps like a champ at night. Yes, sometimes he will just take 1 nap but most days it's still 2. I was wondering, for the mamas that their kids napped 2 times a day at this age, when did they start taking 1 nap?

What can I do next?

Right about this age or it might have been at 22 mos he went down to one 2 hr nap.

Enjoy it while you can. :)

Edit: Oh and I will add that what Jo said happened to me too. 1st nap slid into the place of where his 2nd nap was.

My kids didn't stop taking naps (on the weekends) until they were 8...heck even my husband and I napped when they napped.

Be thankful you have some "down time"...he could be like my GFs son who stopped napping AT ALL at 16 months...yes..he has some issues and that was the first point in mapping them....but WOOT!! WOOT!! naps!!! YAHOO!!

All kids are different so it's hard to say. As long as he is sleeping through the night then just let him be. When he is ready he will let you know.

My daughter went to one nap after her second birthday and stopped all naps before she was four.

Both my daughters slept in kindergarten, both my boys were done with naps before two.
Around 2ish I started the girls in Mommy and me gymnastics that kept them awake in the AM. They also did a little pre-k dance program on base that kept them awake, if we stayed home though they would fall asleep amongst their stuffed animals.

My kids always took one long nap (3 hours?) during the day as opposed to two shorter ones. I loved it. Enjoy it!

If I remember correctly, and my youngest is 11, the first nap started sliding later until it hit the point where the second nap used to be. So like the first nap slid to the second and the second disappeared into night time.

Oh a good rule of thumb taught to me by my daughters, if you spend more time fighting to get them to nap than they are actually sleeping it is time to let that nap go.

My boys would both still take two naps a day if they were allowed to and they are 5 and 7. My daughter has never been a napper and RARELY sleeps late in the mornings.

Be thankful. Don't question it... it might stop :)

All three of my kids dropped the morning nap by around a year... (the first kept it longer - more like 14 months). My next two it was more like 11 months.

My third (a girl) even dropped her afternoon nap at 24 months :(

My son, from the time he was 3 months old to 16 months old slept from 7pm to 7am each night. Then, napped from 9-11and again 2-4 each day. As he got a bit older the naps got shorter, but he still napped. The only reason the naps stopped was because he was moved into a different classroom at daycare where they only did afternoon naps. My second son...gave up naps at 18 months (or tried). I just figure that #1 needs more sleep than #2. Enjoy it while it lasts, but don't be surprised if it ends suddenly.

I can't remember when my son started taking fewer naps, but I do remember he napped through kindergarten (they had quiet time and he slept soundly every time) and on weekends in 1st grade.
He was about 7 yrs old before he was finished with naps.
But if he's having a major growth spurt, even now (he's 13) he'll take an occasional nap.

You are very lucky! I've never known a 21 month old who took 2 naps per day. I see on this site a lot of mom's talking about their kids completely giving up naps around this age, which IMO is waayyyy too early. My GD took naps until her 6th birthday. Even while in Kindergarten; it was only a half day program.
