It's OK. You didn't hurt him. Our ped said not to use the bulb syringe more than twice daily if at all possible, and always with saline drops first. The lining of the nose is tender and those tiny vessels in there are easily broken. He'll be fine. :)

it happens when its used too much. my daughters nose will get like that too when i have to clear her nose many times a day. you have nothing to feel bad about because you did nothing wrong

Yes, that is most likely the reason for the blood. The lining of the nose is very thin, and there are blood vessels just beneath the surface, so if you irritate or scratch the inside of your nose it will bleed. He'll be fine, but you should probably try to use saline in his nose first to loosen the mucous, that way you might not need to use the bulb so much. As long as he can breath and there's not a ton of snot running everywhere, I'd leave it alone for a little while so it can heal. Hope your baby feels better soon!

edit: oops, you said you were using saline, sorry!!

Hi, A.:

Don't feel bad honey.
You saw the blood, you asked for help.
If his nose is runny, then let it run. wipe
gently. Use vaseline around his nose and
under it to keep it from being irritated.

Our Pediatrician said: not to use nasal bulbs too much... because, it can abrade the inner nose/lining. And then it also will hurt....

Yes, you can over-use it.
