NOOOOOO... He Is a Nose Picker.

I love him but he is SUCH A BOY! My son will be 3 next month and every time I turn around he has a finger in his nose. Here's the best part: when I tell him to take his finger out of his nose, he puts it in his mouth and says "mmmmmm." I gag every time he does it and I can't take it anymore. If I just pull his arm down to get the finger out, he puts it right back in. Sometimes he picks his nose until he falls asleep. It is so grose! Please give me the miracle cure for nose picking.

What can I do next?

STOP giving him what he wants! it's a negative form of attention when he gets you to react. Try ignoring it - ie. not gagging. Divert him somehow...My daughter makes this rasberry sound and drives me crazy! I started ignoring her and one day told her only babies make those noises cause they cannot talk... it worked! she says "I'm not a baby!" maybe you could tell him big boys don't eat boogies??
good luck!

i know that it's that nastiest thing ever but its just a phase. My son did it and i tried to tell him everything that i thought would make him stop but it didn't work. eventually he grew out of it. Thats the blessing of boys, they are the sweetest things walking and they love momma but they are true BOYS. Good luck. It will be fine.

hmmmm put tape over his nose?? haha j/k

My daughter hasn't started this yet, but when you ask her where her nose is, she sticks a finger up it haha Hopefully that won't lead to any bad habits...

I found this site: http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/emotions/behavior/five_h... It talks about 5 bad habits & how to help your child quit. Maybe some of the ideas will help you.

Good luck!

I never really had any constant nose pickers. But when I would see them with their finger in their nose, I told them that there are tiny worms under their fingernails and they were putting them in their nose when they picked it. And they better not eat it because then the tiny worms would go inside their tummies and eat their tummies. No problems with picking noses here! Ha Ha!

But it sounds more like he does this to self sooth rather than to find something to nibble on! Just like when babies rub their noses with their blankies, I guess. I'm sure he will grow out of it. But yes, boys are gross. Mine is now 10! Wait until you get to that age!

I agree with Tammy... moisturize it and it kinda takes the "fun" out of it because there's nothing to pick out. Not to mention the taste won't be pleasent so he'll be less likely not to put it in his mouth... unfortunately, though, as with all other bad habits (nail biting, thumb sucking, hair twisting, etc) sometimes there's no easy answer... there's a good possibility that he doesn't even realize he's doing it until you say something and he probably thinks your "grossed out" reaction is kinda funny... It may not work for Joshua but I got Emily to stop picking her nose by telling her that she might put a hole in her nose and that eating boogers can make her sick...it worked and she doesn't do it as often now... good luck!

Okay, this is one of the yucky parts of being a mom. You need to moisteruze the inside of his nosterils. Do you have something left from when he was a tiny baby? Nothing perfumed or to thick. Actually baby oil on a Q-tip would be fine. At the end of the day as part of getting ready for bed. In about two weeks start skipping a day now and then. You should get down to about once a week in about two months. He also needs to learn to blow his nose just any time he is in the bathroom. Good luck.

Jamie... This would make me gag too. I have raised two daughters-and better yet have two brothers...
You want to know what works?

They do this because they get a "Reaction" from us.
STEP ONE- TRY TO IGNORE (this is hard I know) while you are retching inside and wanting so bad to grab that sweet little hand with the atrocity stuck to it... just ignore him. {to his dismay this doesn't seam to bother you any more}
STEP TWO- if you just can't stand it let him know this "CAN" make him sick*** this also makes others sick.
laugh with him if you have to... "Son wouldn't it be just awful if the nice lady sitting in church next to us saw you doing that and just threw up right here"... Yes there could be laughter... Yes there may be vomit before he learns what a nasty habit this is ... but he will out-grow it...

let me know if this works for you....

Good luck and God Bless

If the worst thing he ever does is pick his nose, consider yourself lucky. It's not going to harm him.

And once he starts school, he will most likely respond to the other kids' disgust with it more than he will yours.
