Non-toxic Way to Control Flies

We live Israel and it's very common to fill up a clear, plastic bag with tap water and hang it from somewhere. Don't ask me how it works, but it is very effective.

are they fruit flies or regular flies? If they are fruit flies, take a small gladd jar with a metal lid, like a baby food jar, and poke many holes in the lid. Fill the jar with apples cider vinegar and they fruit flies will be attracted to that. It helps a little for sure! Wind blown at your workspace also helps. Good luck.

Try Listerine. Yes, the mouthwash... I know it sounds weird but I have found that it works to keep mosquitoes away and one of my friends swear by it as a head lice treatment so it may work on the flies too.

We live across from a horse farm and have many children and dogs, therefore our screen doors get left open...the result is MANY flies!

The only way I have found is to swat them. three times a day I hunt down every one of them :)

Have you noticed that at night they settle in on the ceilings? Great time to get them.

I have a product that I use, I actually make, it's made from essential oils and non toxic which kills almost all house hold pests and smells great. I used it in Costa Rica and there they have bugs!!!!
It kills cockroaches instantly too
You can even spray it on your skin for mosquito's

I read someone elses response and if it's fruit flies, the vinegar thing really works! But if it's the regular nasty black flies, try ziploc bags filled with water. I know someone that lives near some farms and she hangs them all over her porch and it has something to do with their vision and their ability to look at water in a bag, it throws them off somehow.
Otherwise, whacking them with a towel is the best.

Oh, I hate them too. I have really only one thought on this one...flies don't like the wind so if you have a fan that you could place strategically in the kitchen, the breeze should keep them away from your workspace. If you keep a door open or continually opening a door where they come in, then a fan aimed at the doorway could help. (You probably have noticed the same thing at the market or restaurants when you enter there is a strong fan blowing on the entrance. It keeps flying critters out.) Good luck.
