I have a 6 yr old who is attending Kindergarten at the Baptist Church around the corner from us. They do not have anything above K. I am looking for suggestions on schools to send her to after this year. We are located in NE Dallas near Garland and Mesquite.

What can I do next?

You can go to www.greatschools.com, it's a good tool to search for schools and it contains testimonies from parents and students.

Our Redeemer Lutheran School (corner of Park Lane and Boedecker, across from Northpark Center)

The Covenant School (north side of LBJ between Coit and Hillcrest)

First Baptist Academy (downtown)

Canyon Creek Academy (not sure this is the correct name, it is a Christian school in Richardson)

Good luck!

I HIGHLY recommend Scofield Christian School in Lake Highlands. It is a fabulous school, very good academic and spritual programs. It's very small, and the kids get a lot of individual attention. Students come from every part of Dallas - Garland, Lake Highlands, Lakewood, University Park, etc. Such a loving environment!

I had friends when I was in high school that attended Dallas Christian, and it seemed like a good school. My neighbor's high schooler used to attend Garland Christian and it was a good school as well.

Garland Christian Academy is a good school. It's at Lavon Drive Baptist Church in Garland. I've heard Dallas Christian is a good school. Also Heritage Christian Academy in Rockwall.

Hi M.,
We go to a terrific small private school (K-12) Classical Christian. It's a 12-1 ratio (per class) and my girls (2nd, 5th) are getting an amazing education in a balanced God-centered enviornment. And, it is also about 1/2 the cost of other private schools. We live in RIchardson and the school is on the east side of 75 off of 15th street. It is housed in downtown historic Plano in a beautifully renovated church. It takes us about 10 minutes down Plano Rd. to get there each day. The hours are 8:30-2:30. The school is called Plano Christian Academy. Their phone # ###-###-####. Susy Warren is the person you will want to talk with about the school. The web address is www.planochristianacademy.com. Hope this helps. I can't say enough good things about our school!

perhaps if you are now attending a baptist school, this suggestion may not be up your religious ally, but i can highly recommend St.Patrick Catholic to anyone. it's small, highly academically rated, close community of families...very good school. the tuition is actualy lower for paritioners so if you aren't one its higher but in general (for paritioners, i know for sure) it's one of the lower tuition private schools in dallas...or is it lower in the catholic schools? anyway, it's a very good school. we've been there since my 12 yo was in K and hate that we may move away before she gets to finish 8th next year.

You should visit Highlander School on Plano Road between NW Hwy and LBJ. It's a hidden gem for PK-6th grades. They've been around for over 40 years and offer a strong classical education with Christian values at less than the cost of many other private schools. They have small class sizes, a loving atmosphere, and excellent teachers. www.highlanderschool.com

They have an observation scheduled next Wednesday, Jan. 14, and an open house on Sunday, Jan. 25. See the website for more details if you're interested.

Hi - I also would like to recommend Highlander School. My son goes there (PreK 1) and it has been a great experience. It is a small school and the students, staff, teachers and parents are all very supportive of one another. I could give lots of details but if you can go to the open house it would be the best way to learn about the school. Best of luck with your search!

Hi M.,
Our boys (PK4 and 1st) have been going to Holy Cross Lutheran School since 3 years old. They begin a "real" curriculum at PK3 and have some of the best qualified teachers around (last year our first grade teacher won the "Teacher of the Year" award from Wal-Mart Neighborhood).

They are a Christian school which is very important to us and the curriculum and resources are amazing! The environment is warm, loving and nurturing at all levels - it's like getting a big hug everytime you go in. We love it and the tuition is very reasonable. It's PK3 through 6th grade - www.hcdallas.org.
Hope this helps.
Blessings,
N.
