Hello everyone - My son is 9 months now and since birth he has always made little noises while eating. It's like a one time "mmmm" sound that he does after each gulp when drinking his bottle or a constant "mmmm, mmmm, mmmm" whenever he's eating baby food after each spoon full. It's the cutest thing ever and everyone who's ever seen him during his feeding time comments on how they've never heard a baby do that before and are truly amazed. lol I don't really think there's anything wrong with it, it's just what he does and adds to his personality. I was just wondering if there are any other "noisy" baby eaters out there and if I should be concerned at all. Thanks!

No one in my family has ever seen/heard a baby that made these types of noises so I'm glad to find that we're not alone. Can't wait to show him videos of this when he's older...lol. Thanks again!
my daughter started the mmmm.mmmmm..mmmm when she was eating baby food. She is now 4 and still does it when she's eating something she likes. My only concern is that kids might make fun of her once she's in school. I don't think my daughter realizes she does it, it's kind of a habit now I think.
Yep - my second son did that. Every once in a while when he's tired or sick he'll lay down with a sippy cup and I'll hear those same little murmurs and sighs I remember from his babyhood. So cute!

My oldest son used to do this too. He was (and still is) a voracious eater and the mmmmms just seemed to go along with that. He always loved his food (and still does). If he is like my son, watch out, he might be a big boy - lol. My son just turned 15 and is thin as a rail but just over 6 feet tall!
My seven month old sometimes makes humming sounds while she nurses....I think she's just keeping herself entertained!

No, your son is not the only baby that does that. My two sons also did that when the were babies too. I admit it was very cute. I figured that they really enjoyed to eat. My two sons also out grew the habit when they were introduced the sippy cup (about a year old). I would not worry about that at all. I would get a video camera and record that "Kodak momment".
My 12 month old daughter started doing the "mmm" sound and also making grunting/growling sounds after each bite of food once we started her on solids. We call it her "sound of contentment" and know that she is just enjoying her food. I never realized how unusual it was either until my MIL and other friends and family members commented on how hilarious it was.
One of my little guys makes the same noise when he eats. I just think it means he's content! You're right though, it is so cute!
My 6 month old grandson hums and sings while drinking his bottle and says mmmm after every bite of food. We now understand that when he says mmmm it means he wants to eat. You are not alone.
I don't remember how long she's been doing it (it seems like always), but my 20 month old daughter does this too. I agree with others that it does seem to indicate contentment. She has a very healthy appetite and just seems to be another sign that she truly enjoys her food. I'm not concerned and I don't think you need to be. We always get comments on how adorable the noises are :O)
Too cute! My little one doesn't hum, but at 12 months, she just figured out that she can make gulping noises with every bite. She loves to do it so much that if she forgets, she takes whatever it was back out so she can eat it again, this time with the noise! ;-)

I have a little man who is 20 months old. He was/is a noisy eater. There are certain foods he does this with that he really likes. He has been that way since we started feeding him baby food. I can't remember what age that was.
Anyway, all of his grandparents like to watch him eat because of the sounds he makes.
Just wanted to let you know your not alone on this.

My daughter does the same thing. My sister in law calls it singing. It's too cute!
My kid used to make this sound that was a cross between a snort and the word 'scrunch'. He was a NOISY eater, but it was not a problem.
My daughter is now 3 and i'm glad im not the only mom with a noisy baby... My daughter has been making same "mmmmm" noises since she was a baby when she would suck on her bottle or after each bite of food...and now she does that at random times and with that she rubs some parts of her favorite blanket while doing that noise...ad if though trying to soothe herself. People have also told me that they have never seen a baby do that and found it cute but i dont know if it's a normal thing....
