I am looking for any tips on potty training my 5 year old girl, she only wets at night so she wears a pull up everynight and 3 out of 5 nights it is wet. Is this normal? If so does anyone have any reccommendations for washable training pants in larger sizes... the cost of pull ups is crazy!!

What can I do next?

Lots of great advice / ideas. Do what works for you. There was a SuperNanny episode with 5 year old twins still in diapers. She just had the parents switch to underwear with a talk and "ceremony" with the kids. Seemed to work.

Yes, it's normal.

Have you tried waking her up right before you go to bed, and having her sit on the toilet?

There are LOTS of training underwear/training pants on the market. Unfortunately, I have never seen them at Target and the like, only online and at "boutiques", so I don't think a lot of people even know about them. A bonus to using training underwear is that there is a serious resale market for these. Even if you personally would never dream of buying used training underwear, there are lots of moms out there who will, and you can recoup some of your costs.

Hanna Andersson, Gerber, and Bummi's are the brand names I see again and again. We use the Bummi's cloth diaper covers, and they are amazing and indestructible, so I would say give their training pants a try. Hanna Andersson is a little on the expensive side, but very well made, and will last through several children.

I saw a potty alarm thing in the one step ahead catalog(I'm sure you could find it online). I talked to my husband and we decided that if our son is still wetting at night after he is 6 or 7, we will look into getting one of those. I don't think it was that expensive. But my son is only 4 1/2 and I still consider it very normal. All his cousins (and aunts and uncles on my husband's side, and even my brother) wet the bed. He is getting a lot better and only wets his "night underwear" a couple times a week lately. I make the training pants that he wears at night. He likes them a lot. I sell them at: http://cheekybum.etsy.com or you can send me a private message on here for more info.

At five years old she can be responsible for helping to clean up her accidents. Put large lap pads under her in bed (can be found in the baby dept at Wal-Mart) and put her in underwear every night. When she wets turn on the light in her bedroom, have her help clean up herself(change her clothes by herself) and help with the sheets. With the lap pads you should only have to strip the top sheet and pad. Hopefully she will find it is easier to just get up and use the bathroom then to wet the bed. You will have to get up a few nights for a few weeks but in the long run you will be done with pull-ups.

I would recommend something that i wish that i would of tried sooner because my son who is 10 would sleep so sound at night that he was still having accidents at night at age 7. I was to putting him in whats called "goodnites" and yes they were costly , so i took him to a doctor to see if there was a problem he said to try the Bedwetting Alarm i got it at a medical supply store for about $100 but it took care of the problem after 2 times he did great..the doctor said as long as i keep putting him in goodnites that i was not helping him learn wakeing up on his own he said parents dont think that it will work ... but again i wish i would of done it sooner

Good Luck

This is completely normal. There is a percentage of kids who will wet the bed at 5, 6, and 7. My daughter stopped when she was six. I don't know of a better solution than pull-ups, sorry.

My daughter is 6 and still wears pull ups to bed every night and they end up wet at least half the time. Our doctor isn't concerned since it's only at night. I can't really offer any advice or help, just wanted to let you know you are not alone in your frustration.

It is still very normal for a 5 year old to be wetting at night. In fact my son who is 8 still occasionally wets at night. They will get better as their bladders mature. We moms tend to be too quick to jump to meds or alarms. It is normal and they will grow out of it. We still just use size 6 diapers because they hold more at night. Good Luck!

We are in the same boat with our 4 1/2 year old. We bought some cloth diapers they work great. That way at least you save the expense and the waste. My husband's theory is to wake him at midnight and have him pee. We have no proof that that works yet...
