My niece is 18 with no insurance & needs to get an exam done. She has a history of ovarian cysts and has also been having very irregular periods and we are looking at the option of birth control to control the period issues. We do not have legal custody of her & therefore she is not covered on our insurance. Where I grew up we had County Health Departments that gave free or low cost health care to residents. For example when I first started getting my yearly exams this is where I went & I got everything free. Is there anything of that nature here? Do you know of a clinic or organization that does this type of thing? thanks so much!
Oh...we live in Fort Worth if that helps anything.

What can I do next?

Call JPS Hospital. Parkland has COPC "Community Oriented Primary Care Clinics" all over Dallas County for people who a eligible (i.e. low-income; uninsured, etc.). I would imagine that JPS has something similar. If they don't have any appointments available, try calling your local Planned Parenthood office. They offer women's health services for anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. You might also call 211 (a nonprofit referral service for Texas) and see if they can refer her to a clinic that she can go to based on her zip code.

I would try JPS's healthcare program or contact Planned Parenthood and see what they suggest.
