Can anyone provide some insight on newborn stomach noises. My 5 week old's stomach makes weird noises all the time. Is that normal or could there be something wrong?

What can I do next?

Chaundra my children did the same thing what you may be hearing is a gas problem. But if you are uncomfortable hearing it check with you doctor what you can give the child. The child could also have Acid Reflux my neighbors grandchild had it also as a newborn and they had to put her on medication because the acid could eat holes in his/her esophagus which could lead to major problems. My stomach also has the funny noises and the doctor diagnosed it as Acid Reflux. Acid Reflux is something you don't want to ignore get the baby to the doctor. lsd1252

It is hard to know exactly what you mean by "wierd noises". If your baby is wetting at least 8 diapers per day, they do not appear to be in distress, and is pooping ok, and gaining weight appropriately, don't worry about it. Your doctor will check your baby's tummy at the next well baby check up which should be coming in the next few weeks. All tummy's gurgle. (It is really the intestines making the noise.) If it is really high pitched almost tinkling sounds, then ask your pediatrician or family doctor. If it sounds like other people's tummy sounds, then it is probably normal.

gurgling, groaning, and all that. your baby's stomach is still getting used to digestion. it's ok. enjoy the giggle. press his knees up to his chest to relieve some of the gas if he makes the squinty "that kinda hurt" face in his sleep.

Newborns make all sorts of little squeaks & grunts but usually stop as they get a little older. Nothing to be concerned about at this time...usually it's just gas. You can get an over the counter liquid called Mylacom which helps relieve gas but check with your doctor first. I used it when my little one was afew months old....she's 6 yrs. now & a very gasy kid...still use it sometime to calm the tummy....good luck

Both my girls' stomachs made funny noises. It seemed like after a few months they stopped and making as much noise. I think it was just their systems getting use to this world! If you notice that it gets bad a particular time or after you eat a certain food (if you're breastfeeding) try avoiding that food. My girls had a problem with dairy, wheat, and veggies.

Most likley the sounds you hear are the baby's intestines moving the food along as he/she digests the milk/formulae that is being fed.

If you put your ear on your baby's father's stomach after eating you will hear the same gurgling noises the baby makes.

I wouldn't worry unless there is bloating or projectile vomiting.
