Newborn Sleeping Question

This may sound like a strange question, but our second baby is totally different from what our first was as a newborn. She sleeps all day long and wakes every 2 to 3 hours to nurse. (She is 6 days old now). She may stay awake for a few minutes here or there but that's about it. She doesn't fuss or cry and is so laid back. Our first was very high maintenance with colic and reflux from the beginning so we aren't used to this. Is this just normal then? Like I said, it sounds like a strange question.

What can I do next?

Mine did that too for the first two weeks. In the third week, his lungs must have grown because we don't even need a baby monitor anymore. He still has a good temperament and only cries for the necessary needs (eating, diaper change).

Sounds like you've got a little angel! Both of mine were/are like your 1st child. Enjoy it while it lasts :)

Thank your lucky stars, first off. Sounds like your second child is going to be a little easier than the first.

My third child was like this. I even spoke to the doctor about it. Unless your child is loosing weight it's not a problem, they will wake up for feeding when they are hungry. That's what I was told. If your child is loosing weight then you should wake them up at least every 4 hours for a feeding.

Hope this helped some!

My first son was like this. He was/is a wonderful sleeper. He would sleep and wake every two hours and then go into the milk comma. At night from day 3 he would sleep 6 hours at a time...i thought this baby thing is easy..smiles. My second girl ( 3 weeks old) hardly ever sleeps. She is not a fussy baby she just has hard time falling asleep. It sounds like you have been blessed by a wonderful sleeper, lucky for you, and unlucky for me every baby is diffrent...smiles. I learned babies grow in their sleeps so I let him sleep. Congrats and enjoy the sleep.

I think it is completely normal. We went through the same thing with our 2nd child. He was soo quiet and peaceful for about the first month. We didn't remember our 1st born being so "sleepy". The quiet sleepy phase of the first few weeks didn't last long enough! By the time his 2nd month came around he was crying non stop and it seemed like he never slept! He is 4 months now and just such a good baby!

Dear LK:

That is not a strange question, but do not celebrate just yet. Reflux/colic symptoms often do not present until between 2-4 weeks of age. I hope this will be your "easy" baby though, and she will remain calm and laid back. You deserve it after your first :)

Yes, it's very normal. They sleep most of the time when they are newborns. But as someone else mentioned, time may change things and the baby may become more fussy as they get older. Hopefully yours won't, but enjoy it while it lasts!
