does hickup's mean my 3 week old has gas
ok so my 3 week old son is having gas in i'am not shur were it's coming from. in i feel so bad i try to do anything an everything to make him feel batter when it happens.
My son is 5 weeks old and seems to get hiccups all the time, but it appears to be less related to gas and more related to him getting overstimulated. For instance, if he starts struggling to poop after he eats, he'll get the hiccups.
Also, my Dr. told me that if he got the hiccups a lot in the womb, he'll probably get them a lot still and that it's nothing to worry about.

Mylacon drops can help...but also make sure you burp him good during and after feedings. If you are giving him a bottle try to sit him up as much as possible while your feeding him. If he still has gas and seems to be uncomfortable you can also lay him on his back with his feet toward you and push his knees toward his chest...you can try pushing them both up to his chest at the same time or one at a time like he's riding a bike. It is sad when they are sad and uncomfortable...sometimes when you've tried everything you just have to hold them...he will know you are there for him. Good luck!

Newborns get a lot of hiccups and it doesn't mean they have gas , when they have gas they tend to pull their legs up and also be quite rigid , he would be crying like he was in discomfort/pain aswell if he had gas. I used to find laying mine on there backs and rubbing there tummy in a circular motion helped with the hiccups.
No, hiccups are a spasm of the diaphragm and are nothing to worry about. Unless they continue for hours, they will go away on their own. I think I have heard that infants get them possibly because their system is immature and everything is not quite working together well, but we all get them. My son is 26 and still gets them if he eats too fast, and they go away in a few minutes.
As for the gas, try the bottles with the bags inside, or make sure you burp him well during your feedings.
Here's what you can do to help with gas... curl him up with something warm on his tummy (fill a sock with dry rice, tie it off and microwave for 20 seconds, let cool to a warm temp) once you have him curled up around the warm sock, then turn him in your arms until he's at an incline with his head lower than his rear. Bounce him gently in this position for a short while. Remove the sock and gently press his knees to his tummy while still inclined. This always worked for my boys and they'd really let 'er rip. ;)
i found that when ever both my kids had the hickups that ment that they had wet diapers. so try and check that next time.
try changing the bottle if he's bottle fed. could be getting too much air when eating. i suggest the ones with bags in them like playtex drop ins. hiccups are the diaphram muscle contracting not a gas symptom.
Hiccups are very common in newborns. My son got them a lot when he was an infant. It is normal. So is gas. He got gas often but I don't think one was related to the other. It is just that they are still developing and their systems are still adjusting. Here is a small article on hiccups. Hiccups aren't necessarily related to gas. Newborns just hiccup a lot. they do it in utero too before they are born - did you feel it while you were pregnant? It's more of a reflex at this age, and I don't think it bothers them.
If he is showing pain, ask your doctor and get a weight check. He may be hungry and need more food, or it's possible he has reflux. Make sure he has enough wet and poopy diapers too.
really frequent hiccups can often indicate GERD, or infant reflux. Google those words and see if he has any symptoms and talk to your pediatrician.
