It is getting time to purchase a new vacuum cleaner and wanted to get honest reviews from the moms on this site. I know I could follow the reviews online but not sure if they can be trusted. I have a four year old and three cats (one for each of us). I can’t afford a Dyson so I am not sure between the Bissel, Dirt Devil, Hoover, etc, etc.
Thanks in advance you guys are the best.

What can I do next?

I too have a 4 year old plus a 2 year old and a dog that is a heavy shedder. I just recently got the Hoover Windtunnel (at Sears) and love it. It is great on carpet.I switched from a bagless vavuum cleaner to one which does need bags and couldn't be happier. Can't believe how much extra dirt and hair it picks up.

Look for one that specifically says PET on it. I have a bissel and it got clogged up alot from dog and cat hair so then it wouldn't pick up as much or get overheated and shut off. Same thing with the bagless Shark.

I got a Dyson DC 25 ball now and LOVE IT. It never gets clogged. Look at craiglist for a used one or even a kerbie. My dad found a Kerbie for under 200. Do not get the DC 24, its smaller, heavy, and less power. Best time was day after thanksgiving.
I typed in Dyson on Bing and found this site on shopping, a used one for 282
and on ebay i typed Dyson vaccums

I just bought a Bissel in December. Bagless "never lose suction" It is OK but not great. The attachment hose doesn't suck for anything. I use it a lot on hard surface floors, it does OK until you turn it off to put it away, everything falls back out of it.

Shark Navigator! Inexpensive, works well, lightweight, bagless - love it! We bought it to use in place of our much more expensive rainbow vac in other areas of the house. It is much easier to use and does the job quickly. Buy online at walmart for a great price and nearly free shipping

I have to say the Shark navigator is awesome i love it.It has fluffed up my carpets and cleans very well.you can also lift it off its base so you can vaccum your stairs and car whatever you'd like.Ive gone threw many vaccums and this one is by far the best.Ive had it for a few months and it works just like it did when i bought it.Cord is very long and its quiet. Its compared to the dyson i like it better than the dyson.

I bought a Bissell Pet Eraser that I love!! I clean the filters about once a month and it gets all the stuck in pet hairs off the couch. It's very reasonable price too at around $150 - $175. My only two complaints are that I wish there was a floor attachment and an automatic cord rewind.

The Bissel and Hoover are the best as far as I am concerned. Honestly, I always stood by Hoover but tried the new Bissel for pets about four years ago and still have it and love it. I had a new carpet put down a few months ago and the man that did it was amazed at how clean the carpet pad was under the carpet. He had me purchase a new pad and I didn't need it so I now have double padding under my carpet. He said he has been installing carpet for 20 years and has never seen an old carpet so clean or the padding still looking brand new. So go with the Bissel , but make sure you get the one with the pet connector for couches and chairs. It doesn't cost much either. Ours was right around $100 when we got it.

I used to spend about $80 on a vacuum cleaner but had to replace it about every two years. I got fed up and bought a shark navigator 2 years ago. I think it was between $150 and $200 but it has a five year warranty on it so I thought I would try it. It has surpassed all my expectations. I rant and rave about this vacuum. It is absolutely the best investment I have made. It is light weight, easy to use, easy to clean, and the suction power on it is unreal. Every cleaning lady I have used in the past 2 years has agreed it is an excellent vaccum cleaner with very strong suction power. Worth every penny. Highly recommended especially because of the price compared to a dyson. Oh and as a bonus it can be used on floors as well as carpets and work equally well on both.

besides Dyson I know thta Bissel and Hoover work well. If you can buy at a place that has an awesome return policy, so if you dont like it you can return (like costco). I had a hoover for years before I got my Dyson and never had any issues. Hope this helps :-)
