My husband and I just moved to Tigard, Or with our two children. I would love to hear any advice about the doctors in the area, specifically in pediatrics. My 3 year old son has special needs and I really need to find a great pediatrician (would be an awesome bonus if he or she was good with preemies). I also need to find a good pediatric Opthamologist asap, as well as a pediatric Orthopedist for my son's mild CP. Any suggestions are welcome!! Thank you!!!

Hello, and welcome!

The pest Pedi-Ortho doctors are at Shriner's Hospital. Shriner's is up on the OHSU hill (with OHSU, Doernbecker, etc.) Shriner's is free and amazing. They work extensively with children who have CP. You do need to apply for their services.

The Children's Clinic at Meridian Park is fabulous! It's actually in Tualatin, but not far. My daughter used to see Sarah Cannon there, now we have moved & go to the Children's Clinic @ Peterkort St. Vincent's. Both clinics have terrific, compassionate and knowledgeable doctors!
I have also gone to both clinic's of the Women's Healthcare Associates, at both hospitals. Dr Lisa Pew was my OB for my 1st pregnancy.
Best Wishes!

Hi there...My name is M. F. and I may have some suggestions that may help. Metropolitan Pediatric's is an awewsome clinic. They have a few clinics in the area and maybe even one on the west side by you. My daughter is 5 and she see's Dr. Karen Lickteig at the NW Portland Office. My husband and I are both in the medical field (we both work in the Emergency room of Emanuel Hospital) and have worked very closely with Dr. Lickteig there. We were VERY picky when it came to chosing a doctor when we were pregnant. She was our first and only choice. The other thing that is great is that everyone of the other doctors in the clinic were just as wonderful and the office staff as well. The other suggestion that I have for an ortho doc is Dr. Christopher Acterman. He is someone we have also worked with at the hospital and is extremely competant and very kind with a great bedside manner with children. And the last suggestion is that if you call the Dever's Eye Clinic at Good Samaritan Hospital, they should be able to suggest someone who deals with pediatric patients as well! Hope this helps...and wasn't too much info!

Welcome to Tigard, V.!
My son has a great pediatrician. She was the one we chose when he was born in 2002 -- she is great with children. We had a brief stint with Kaiser due to an insurance change, but we were able to go back to our favorite pediatrician once I changed jobs and had my old plan back. Her name is Dr. Laura Bledsoe and she is with the Portland Clinic. Her office used to be over near the Tigard Home Depot, but she just moved this past Monday to the Portland Clinic Beaverton location. I don't have her phone number handy, but you can look her up on The Portland Clinic's website.

When my son was born, we had problems with him eating and not gaining weight. She was very helpful and kind to both our son and to me.

Sorry that I don't know of a pediatric Opthamologist or Orthopedist.

A good pediatric dentist is Dr. Brandon Schwindt (www.drbrandon.com). He is located off of Durham Rd and Hwy 99W in Tigard.

Their pedatrician is Dr. Nichols at the Childrens Clinic, it's by St. Vincents Hospital, about 15 minutes from Tigard/ The phone number is ###-###-####--I can't reccomend any specialist, I'm sure they have them at the Children's Clinic, but I have had no personal experience. Good luck!

I love Sunset Pediatrics. They are actually in Portland at St. Vincent Hospital, but they are very caring and have great after hours, on-call help from an actual doctor. There are four doctors in the office and they rotate the on-call duties. I find that all are very helpful and very patient with the kids and myself (the near hysterical late night calls from the new mom...).

You can find them online at www.sunsetpediatrics.com or call ###-###-####. We were able to set up an interview with one of the doctors and we really liked him. We see Dr. Snyder, but have seen most, except Knapp -she's new, but talked w/ her on last on-call need, and we like them all.

I have a 3 year old daughter and a 6 month old son.

Hope this helps,
D.

I take my two girls (2yo and 5yo) to Paul Thomas at Westside Pediatrics. They have two offices at St. Vincent and Tanasbourne. He - and the rest of the practice - is great. Also, they have weekend hours during cold/flu season.

I have a 20mos old boy, Tyler. We also live in Tigard, but we go to the Providence Sherwood Medical center and he has an excellent pediatrician! Sherwood is less than 10min. from Tigard. Her name is Dr. Sarah Rollins and their phone number is ###-###-####. I really like her because she as always taken time with us and discussed everything. We never felt as if she was in a hurry to get to another patient.

Welcome to the area! We moved here (Sherwood to be specific) from CA about 13 years ago and while it's definitley different (in a GREAT way), I love it here!
As far as pediatricians go, we see Dr. Craft at the Childrens Clinic in Tualatin. He has half a dozen kids himself (which includes a set of twins as do my trio of boys) and is absolutely wonderful. He always takes his time, answers your questions completely and you never feel like he's rushing you. My twins were preemie and Dr. Craft was great. He is very busy however and at times, hard to get an appointment with in a reasonable amount of time. I think ANY doctor at the Children's Clinic would be great. The Tualatin office is ###-###-#### and is located across from Meridian Park Hospital. They also have the Portland office across from St. Vincents at the 217-26 interchange. We don't have the need for a pediatric opthamologist so I don't know of any personally but if you visit the Childrens Clinic, I'm sure they will refer you to a great one.
Southwest Family Physicians or any of the Providence offices (depending on your insurance) is great for the adults. Providence in Sherwood (which is where I go) offers walk-in urgent care M-S which I really love. They also have a couple pediatricians we have seen when we couldn't get in to Dr. Craft and they are both good too but we always go back to Dr. Craft. Anyway, I know it's hard to pick the perfect doc but you have been given lots of great options so I think you will do fine. Welcome to Tigard! :)

Edited to add: Oh, and make sure you change your plates on your car ASAP. Apparently, Californians aren't welcomed by a SELECT FEW and we got a quite a few middle fingers and horns blown at us the first month or two we were here. Heck, by now, a good portion of the population here are transplants as well so you may not get the razing we got. :)

My doctor for 16 years is Dr. Joyce Endo, West Linn Family Health Center, West Linn, Or. Office number ###-###-####. She is OB, Pediatrician, general practitioner. I'm 36 now and am very happy with all the staff at this clinic. Urgent situations they are quick to respond. I have only great words to say of them. I just moved to Milwaukie, but lived in North Portland for 11 years and the drive never bothered me. So driving from Tigard shouldn't be too hectic.

Welcome!

My daughter also has mild CP and I have been with the OHSU group of Pediatrics since we moved here when she was 1yr. They are directly connected with OHSU hospital and their CDRC. Her Ped. Opthamoligist is Dr. Wheeler at Casey Eye institute, part of OHSU hospital. The nice part about the entire group is that they easily track and share infomation from testing to well visits. I love them. If you go online you will find all the info you need to contact them. http://www.ohsu.edu/outreach/cdrc/. You may also want to contact your local Washington county Early intervention, if you need extra help or services. They will work with preschool or in home daycares, if you need. Again welcome to the area, you are going to love it here once you get used to the rain.

I'm not sure about pediatrics, but I have really liked the care I have received at the Southwest Family Physician's group off of Greenburg Road. I do know that they see children. If you can't find what you are looking for on your own, maybe you could make an appointment there and they will refer your kids to a great pediatric doctor in the area.

My two-year-old son and I also go to Dr. Jennifer Means, ND, at the Tigard Holistic Clinic. She is wonderful. That may be another option for you as well.

We live in Beaverton, and my son goes to Dr. Ericksen at Sunset Pediatrics. They are wonderful, but I don't know about their experience with preemies and children with CP. They are located on Barnes Road off of 217.

Hope that helps.
