I am hoping someone will be able to give me some feedback about the labor and delivery departments of hospitals in Charleston. I am new to the area and do not know where to have my baby in May.

What can I do next?

Personally I think the absolute best place to have a baby in Charleston is Roper St.Francis Hospital. It is small, intimate and beautiful. Nurses apparently are on a wait list to be there because it is such a pleasant place to be! I had my baby there last November and I would never go anywhere else. The rooms are gorgeous and don't at all look or feel like a hospital. If you want more information, please feel free to contact me at ____@____.com.

Hi T. , I had my first son at Musc, had my second son at St.Francis in west ashley. That is my favorit. Now i had to go with the hospital that my Dr. was with. So if you have a Dr. here you need to ask where they deliver. My Dr. now delivers at St. francis & roper ( down town ).That is where i will have my 3rd and last child in feb (roper). I have a tour next of that hospital. I hope this helps. Email me if you need more info.

I delivered at East Cooper last September, everything about it was wonderful. All the rooms are great and the staff really makes you feel welcome.

East Cooper was wonderful!!!! I had a very good experience there and so did two of my close friends. The nursing staff is great and very professional. The nursery staff is good too. I had a c-section and spent 4 days in the hospital, and everybody was great. It was a very good experience. I have not heard good things about St. Francis. Most OBs don't deliver at all of the hospitals, so you might need to check with your OB to find out where they deliver. I would recommend East Cooper to anybody though.

I didn't tour Mt P but I have heard it is great. I toured Trident and Summerville Medical. I liked them both, but Summerville Medical was definitely my favorite. Most of them give free tours so I would say check them all out :)

If you have any specific questions about Summerville Medical, then let me know as that is where I had my son. Everyone there was so nice and helpful and they were very responsive to my requests.

I will have to say that my recent experience at St. Francis, West Ashley, was wonderful. The nurses made me feel that I was the only patient there. They gave me personal attention and I never felt like I was bothering them when I needed something, which is how I felt with my first child at a different hospital.
I have heard bad things about Trident from several people and I know of a few that have traveled extra mileage to keep from going there, even in emergency situations.
I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck on your search.
