My family just moved to the Dallas area this week. I would love to get any advice on pediatricians, dentists, OBGYN's, schools ( my son will be in k4 next year), great restaurants, great parks, play groups or anything you may have to offer that will help us to get acclamated.

Can you send another request with the area of Dallas you are in. Dallas is so big and there are good recommendations for all areas, but I don't want to send you across the city.

Hi T.,
There is a great new website that is launching on the 15th. It is designed to give exactly the kind of information you are looking for. Actually it was created by a mom who moved to a new area with four kids under 7 and had the same frustrations you are having. This website is the answer. It is not fully populated yet but do check it out for services you and your family might need as well as articles and coupons. The address is www.MetroplexforChildren.com Welcome to the metroplex, I know you will be happy here.

T.,
WELCOME!! I hope you enjoy living here and feel "at home" before you know it! I moved here 3 years ago and quickly found the website AroundTownKids.com to be a must-have resource for all things kid-related in the area. The site has a weekly newsletter that you can subscribe to, and also has a Facebook page you can become a fan of. There are oodles of coupons and give-aways in addition to event listings, info on sports/school registration, etc. Check it out!

Welcome to Dallas, T.! I m a 'transplant' too! But I've bn here since '89.

Here are my recommendations:
Pediatrician: Dr. Matthew Yaeger or Dr. James Watkins of Pediatricians of Dallas. Ph: ###-###-####. We love them n hv bn with their practice since my daughter was 1. She's now 11. They are sweet and gentle with a wonderful bedside manner. We never feel rushed. They are on Walnut Hill between Central and Greenville.

Dentist: ( Recommended by Dr. Yaeger as all his 5 kids go there too!) Dr. Mark Kogut. Ph: ###-###-####. The Disneyland of dentist clinics. They make the children feel welcome with signs, toys, a library of bks u can borrow, little prizes, etc... We've bn going to Dr. Kogut from the get go. The other docs in the practice are excellent too. They all have a sweet, patient, kind nature. They take regular xrays n really stay on top of the development of every stage of my daughter's teeth. She even loves going for regular teeth clngs and looks forward to the next one. Her favorite things are the marshmallow n choc chip cookie dough flavored toothpaste, flavored floss n rinse. Even the rubber gloves they wear are blueberry flavored!! Oh btw, they are in the same Woodhill clinic bldg as Dr. Yaeger.

Obgyn: I have the best in the world! I switched to Dr. Sam Tyuluman ( ###-###-#### ) after the last one ( Ann Woodbridge ) gv me terrible care when I had my daughter and had complications. He is sweet, gentle and patient. He also does not overprescribe n believes in natural healthful things like
drinking green tea, cooking with olive oil, etc.. I highly recommend Dr. Tyuluman. I've bn going to him for 10 years n hv recommended him to countless thankful friends.

Restaurants: We hv so many favs. Wht are your likes?

Schools: We started out at Meadowbrook n loved it. It's on Northwest Hwy between Inwood n the tollroad. For other boys or coed schs, look into Sr. Mark's, Greenhill, ESD, Lamplighter, Gd
Shepard, in that order.

Good luck and feel free to send me a message with more qns..

Welcome to the area. I'm not sure where you are living in the area, but I highly recommend North Dallas Pediatrics = they have offices in Dallas, Plano & Frisco. Northlake OB/GYN which also has offices in Dallas & Plano.

Scottish Rite Park is awesome close to downtown. It is enclosed and the kids love it. Don't forget about fun kids stuff in the Dallas Children's Theatre, Science Place and Dallas World Aquarium, The Dallas Arboretum & Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens are also fun.

There are tons of great museums, walking trails, parks and fun things to do.

Shea also gives you 20% off on your first visit. Please feel free to call me at ###-###-####. T.

these recos are kinda all over the map, but here's the places that top my lists:
pediatrician: Healthy Kids Pediatrics (Dr. Bain)
dentist: SmileWorks Dentistry (Dr. Ainley)
OBGYNs: [I hear Jane Gandy is a great midwife!]
schools: Wylie Preparatory Academy (it's a university model school, pretty neat)
restaurants: umm. this list could get long...Chuy's (Tex-Mex), Red, Hot & Blue (Memphis-style BBQ), Macaroni Grill (Italian), Buca de Beppo (Italian, family-style), Mr. Jim's Pizza (delivery), Nick & Sam's (steaks, seafood, upscale though i hear a Nick & Sam's Grill has opened up as a more casual spin-off), Uncle Julio's (Tex-Mex), Berryhill Baja (fish tacos, Tex-Mex), Freebird's (world burritos), Dream Cafe (brunch), Blue Canyon (American, seafood), The Reata (upscale but comfy, Ft. Worth)...i'm gonna stop here, getting hungry!!
parks: Highland Park has several good ones, Abbot Park is our fave, in Rockwall, Harry Myers is our go-to place, in McKinney, Towne Lake is nice, and in Duncanville, Kidsville
As for things that might help you feel at home, we really like Fellowship Church in Dallas and Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall

HTH!

Welcome to Dallas. You will find that this is a HUGE area and very spread out. We live in Rockwall, so the doctors may not be convenient to where you live. However, I would recommend being a part of a playgroup in your area. I am sure that someone on this site can associate with one. That is what I would do if I were staying at home. Downtown Dallas (Uptown area) has great restaraunts - more for date nights. There are great malls in the Southlake, Grapevine and Galleria (near Dallas) areas. Enjoy!

Hi T.,
I have just moved to Allen, from Dallas Dallas.
I just have a suggestion for a great pediatrician there. His name is Dr. William Moore (ph: ###-###-####). He is v patient and answers his own calls after hours and even calls the next day to check on your kid. Isnt that awesome.
He is off of Central Expwy and Northwest Hwy. Not sure if that will be convenient for you or not.

Good luck!
