We are going to New Jersey soon . We were thinking of going to the shore one day . Someone suggested Point Pleasant . I read up on it and heard they have a lot of peanuts / peanut shells there . My son is allergic . Anyone have any info on this ? I have heard that Longbranch is nice too . Haven't heard about peanuts there ! Any info on the shore would be appreciated !!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am not trying to avoid all areas with peanut products . We are unable to eat in bakeries , candy shops , ice creams shops , attend baseball games etc . I read somewhere that there are a lot of peanut shells along the boardwalk and they must be sold / eaten there often . I am trying to find out if this is true so we can avoid this area . We have the epipen everywhere he goes . Thank you all for your help .

I was only at a shore once and i don't remember it being exactly like a baseball game where you could walk through peanut shells on the ground, but i think you are rright to ask and be cautious. i think the actual beach water part might be ok but any board walk really could have dropped food and contamination..

Maybe an allergy support website group might be a better place to ask, I would have hoped someone here could tell you but i think you would get people more focused an aware on an allergy site.

what about disney?, there is peanut products there too I think, maybe easier to avoid but still there. man, my heart goes out to you. what a tough issue to have. not many people understand it.

I don't specifically think about peanuts on boardwalks but I guess they are there - nut toppings on ice scream, peanuts and popcorn, I think some candied apples have nuts on them, and some restaurants cook with peanut oil.
I guess I'd just bring epi pen(s) to deal with an emergency if needed.

Can you post the link you found? I can't imagine what they mean by peanuts and shells unless it's the boardwalk concession stands - but how is that different from every other food outlet? Is your son so allergic that he will react to the presence of a shell on the beach? If so, I would think you would have to avoid all resort areas, ice cream stores, fudge & brownie making bakeries, and so on.

Where in New Jersey are you going to visit? There are beautiful shore spots all along the length of the Atlantic Coast. I've been to Point Pleasant, Ocean City, many spots on Long Beach Island, and Spring Lake. And that's just a few. Are you a member of AAA? They have a free travel service.

I don't think you'll have a problem at O. boardwalk more than any others.
Google "boardwalk cams" for several beaches. You'll see they are not piled up with peanut shells.

I would be surprised to find any beach concession stands that don't sell peanuts.

I don't see how you can possibly avoid all peanut and peanut products everywhere.

How old is he? Has he been to preschool, school, etc.

You see peanuts and peanut products everywhere. Prime examples listed below.

My suggestion is to try not to overthink it so much that you ruin your vacation but be proactive and take the EpiPen just in case.

Other New Jersey beaches you may consider. Long Branch, Ocean Grove and my favorite Sea Side Heights. Not sure about the peanut thing but it is worth a good look into.

I grew up in Jersey, but I have not been to the Jersey shore in almost 30 years. The boardwalks have all kinds of foods, so yes there are probably peanuts. I doubt there are any more there then any other place.

When I used to go these beaches were nice. We would visit Seaside heights the most or Ocean City, NJ. My favorite beach is Island Beach State Park which is just past Seaside, but no boardwalk there.

Now I am thinking of funnel cakes and all the good (and greasy) foods.

ADDED
There are probably stands that sell roasted peanuts and that would be why there are nut and shells on the boardwalks. I don't remember them being very clean, but that was a long time ago.
