New Fuzzi Bunz Leaking/repelling

Did you say you didn't use liners?? Meaning no stuff in the pocket? That's probably why they leaked, the liners are what makes them absorbent! :) Country save is supposed to be good, also the cotton tails baby lady mentioned Purex free and clear. Try using the liners and see how it works out for you! BTW, I don't know where you live, but if your in Pinellas, cottontail baby opened a store with TONS of diapers to touch and feel, she could probably answer any questions you might have too!

Are they tight enough around your daughter's legs? I know I had a problem with that on my son when he was really little. Sizing can vary with FBs since they are handsewn. Also, how long are you leaving them on her at a time? My son is a heavy wetter, so I cannot leave them on as long as I could a disposable. I often check the insert at the back to see how wet it is. That is the easiest way to check to see if he needs to be changed or not.

To check for repelling, try wetting the diaper with water. If the water gets absorbed through the diaper into the insert with the inner part of the diaper feeling only slightly damp, then the diapers are working fine. It may just be a matter of fit then. If the water does not get absorbed through to the insert, then they are repelling. Repelling usually happens due to a buildup of soap. I have not heard of FBs repelling right after being bought.

I use Arm and Hammer Free and Clear which is listed as a safe detergent on the FB web site (http://www.fuzzibunz.com/faq.php#q23). It is much more affordable than many of the recommended detergents.

I haven't tried the Fuzzi Bunz, but I did have a similar problem with Little Beetles. It is possible that you just need to wash them a few more times. I've been using Crickett's diapers, and they are WONDERFUL! When they were brand-new, the usage instructions said that it would take a few washings for them to reach their full absorbancy, and with every washing, they seem to just get better and better. They are also intended to be dried in a hot drier, which I know some cloth diapers are not. Also, when you wash your diapers, you might try adding a little white vinegar (half a cup or so) in with the detergent. Finally, the liners (I use Imse Vimse) don't make a bit of difference when it comes to absorbency - they just make it easier to get the poop off without scrubbing.

I sell Fuzzi Bunz. Are you all just using one insert you get with the diaper? I find that it isn't absorbent enough. I love using Chinese Prefolds instead. Yes, it is a little more bulky but SO much more absorbent. I love my chunky butts!! =o)
Before Tereson started selling her inserts, she encouraged us retailers to sell these prefolds. It defeats the purpose of using Fuzzi Bunz if you have to change them so much because you do not have a very absorbent insert. I have to at least use 2 inserts and then it still leaks way before a prefold does.
I have also found that using one insert and a smaller prefold works well, too. I am not talking about the prefolds from local stores, though. The chinese ones are the ones that quilt up real nice. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Hope you have figured out the issue. Sometimes you will need to strip your diapers by adding a titch of Dawn Dishwashing detergent and then rinsing them like crazy. I recommend any child over 6 months put a doubler with the insert - they usually need the extra absorbency.

Hi! to figure out if the FB are really repelling, you'll need to fill a saline nasal (these work best) bottle with water and squirt it at an unused diaper. If it abosrbs riught away it's not repelling, if the water beads up and runs off they are repelling. If the diapers are not repelling, in a baby of that age I would pin the problem on not enough absorbtion. I had to change my soaker to a more absorbable one early on with my little guy. It really helps, you could try just doubling up on the inserts just to see if it helps the problem. If they are repelling, you probably has a detergent build up. Strip your diapers. Use baking soda and vingar to clean them, then rinse them with nothing until you can open the washer lid and see absolutly no suds. Sometimes washing in less water will help with this too. I would suspect though that this early on you have an insert problem more than a repellant problem. I use either sun free and clear or all free and clear and both have worked well with me. I've heard really any of the free and clears are good as long as they don't have sulcrafates, since they tend to irritate the skin.

When using the Fuzibunz pocket diapers, you need to use a liner because the diaper itself has nothing to soak up the urine.
