New Diaper Bag Needed

Hi Moms – I am in desperate need of a new diaper bag. I’ve hated my bag since the day I left the hospital with my daughter. The Columbia bag is always falling over and when I fill the pockets I can’t fit anything inside. The only thing I love about it is that it has stroller straps. My stroller doesn’t have a very large basket so I need to be able to strap it on the handles.
I don’t think I carry all that much for my 14 month old daughter but it never seems to fit.
I usually have 3 diapers, wipes, small powder, changing pad, change of clothes, sweater, insulated bag for milk cup, and a small cup with snacks.

My husband is sick of listing to me complain about it. He keeps saying…please just get another bag! Just when I think I’ve found the perfect bag I read the reviews and get discouraged. Any suggestions will help. I don’t even care how much it is.

What can I do next?

Hey E.,
I went through 3 diaper bags before I found my Vera Bradley diaper bag. It's roomy, but not too huge, it has a removable base for when you need to throw the bag in the washer, and there are a ton of patterns to choose from. I've always used a lot of her bags and they hold up really well. The best part is that it's washable. Good luck.

Hi
Although my son is now 4 1/2 I went thru 2 diaper bags before I found the perfect one for me - by Kathy Van Zeeland - it had so many pockets, changing pad, great organization, nice straps, very stylish ( I received tons of complements) & it wasn't very expensive, but I can't for the life of me remember where I got it - maybe online?!

Good luck!!

Get a back pack. Fits everything , usually has front and side pockets, can put it on your back for hands free and the straps can go over the stroller

It is so important to love your diaper bag. Otherwise it will frustrate you to no end. I started out with two that I hated. Then, when my daughter was about 9 months I got the one I love. Fleurville bags are awesome. I have the sling tote and even though I don't need a diaper bag anymore, (my daughter is 3 1/2) I still use it for outings to the zoo and other day trips. They are a little pricey but the quality and design makes them totally worth it. The website is Fleurville.com

Hope you find a great bag soon.

PS
The sling tote has stroller straps too.

Hi E. ~ I loved my diaper bag from Vera Bradley. They come in many different colors and most shops always seem to be "retiring" a color, so you could probably find one on sale. It's big, roomy, compartments, changing pad and big straps that I was able to hang over my stroller too. And the best part is now that my son is 3 and no longer needs a diaper bag, I just use for whatever I need it for - travel, beach, etc. and it still looks great after being washed several times.

Ignore everyone elses reviews and truck on over to Babies R Us or Baby Depot. A diaper bag is as personal as a purse, only you know what features and sizes are right for you. With my last child I had two bags, a smaller one for short outings and a large one for all day trips, flying, and travel out of town. Get what you like and don't worry about what others thought of it.

Sounds like you have had enough of that diaper bag. When i had my first baby 7 years ago, my sister (who already had 4 kids and 1 grand child) suggested a back pack. One reason is because the baby would always be with me so the diaper bag would also be serving as my purse. It was a great suggestion. I have passed that little hint to others and they thank me for it. There are multiple pockets, it can be passed from you to your husband without his gender being questioned ha ha. And it simply straps to your back so your hands are free for your precious bundle of joy. Now my girls are 4 & 7 and we still use our back pack for the zoo, the beach, the park, our road trips, the fair. Everywhere we go, because it can hold snacks, mommy's wallet and because of the multiple pockets. Good luck in finding the perfect diaper bag, i hope this helps.

For my second child, I went to the GAP and bought a black backpack. So easy to carry. Looks good with everything, even on a guy. Plenty of room. And I still use it to this day and my son is 9!! Good luck!

A couple weeks ago I was in the same boat. I just bought a backpack with a small section in the front and 2 spots in teh side for cups. It's been the best diaper bag I've had...with 3 kids, I've gone through a lot in the past 4 years!!

E.,

I have probably the easiest solution. It isn't even a diaper bag. I ran into this same problem. I then discovered that no bag that I came across would work. I then started using a backpack. It worked great. I just found one that had all sorts of pockets and compartments and just the right size.

Good luck.

E.,

Hi. When I downsized to a smaller bag, I used the free formula diaper bag that I received at the hospital. Cheap, yeah, but it hangs off the back of the stroller, no one really sees it. Mine had a small compartment for the change pad, an open outside pocket, space on both ends for bottles, or keys, or cell phone and a decent sized inner space with inner pocket. If you want something to keep stuff cool, buy an insulated lunchbag and use a carbiner clip if you can't fit it under your stroller. (Clip it to diaper bag.)

If that's not an option (and I use this on outdoor park outings, travel and for full day excursions), go for the backpack option. This allows you to be hands free ... of course it does cause a problem with a purse/handbag... you'll have to consolidate only necessities and put them in the pack. I found a wonderful, multi-compartment pack at Target last summer before our plane trip to Canada. (The pack fit diapers, pullups, foldup potty seat, wipes, snacks for both kids and me, sippy cups, bottles, purse stuff, etc... etc...) Since I was traveling alone with the kids, it was a lifesaver!

You could also buy a bag clip and/or other accessories to add to your stroller to optimize space.

Good luck!

Hi E.,

I loved my Lands' End bag. It will hold a ton of stuff, yet it never felt bulky. I really liked the "doctor bag" style opening. That made it easier when trying to find something in the bag with one hand and holding onto baby with the other. You can check them out at www.landsend.com.

I love the Eddie Bauer bags. I have the weekend bag:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=226699...

I got it in April 06 and still use it daily. Excellent for travel, great for every day. The shoulder strap can be shortened to go over the stroller handles. Has been very well traveled, two international trips, so many domestic trips I can't count anymore. Excellent condition! Fits EVERYTHING. Now I use it for my 3 year old to do sleep overs at Grandma's house!

Good luck! C.

what i did with my son at this age was actually put a few diapers and wipes in the glove compartment of the car and then also carried 1 or 2 diapers and a ziplock bag of wipes in my purse. and then also a bottle or cup in my purse. i also put a change of clothes in the car for him. that way i didn't have to carry a purse and also a diaper bag. and i was never too far from the car that i couldn't go out and get extras if needed. i still carry clothes for my 5 yo daughter and my son is now almost 3 and i still do the same for him in my car.

I recently got the Vera Bradley Back Pack and I love it!!! I also got the makeup bag and use it to store my cold items and or food because it has a plastic lining on the inside. It fits right inside the pack. The Vera Bradley collection is a little more expensive but worth it and there are so many different patterns to choose from. I have a friend that also got one and she feels the same as I do. Hopefully that helps.

I bought a diaper bag from Sears...Baby Sac. It's big but not too big. I can adjust the straps to put over the stroller but it doesn't have "stroller straps" like you've indicated. It comes in black with either pink letters or blue (the word "Baby Sac" is written small on the front of the bag)...I bought mine on sale with pink letters. It doesn't bother me a bit to use it with my boy. Besides, the diaper bag is for me so I am not bothered by any colors. I like it and that's all that matters. I got it on sale for $15.00. There is a smaller version of it but I thought it was too small. I'd say go to a Babies R' Us if you have one near you. There are so many to choose from (diaper bags) and what I did when I was shopping for a bag, I brought my diaper bag and asked a store employee if it was okay for me to put the contents of MY bag into any of the diaper bags I may be interested in buying...just to make sure everything fits and that I liked how it felt.

Hi there, You obviously need one that has a base to stand up. There are really cute and affordable ones at a shop in The Bird rd Art district, next to Kreativa for Kids! It's called Viva Verda it has cool stuff. Stroller liners, grocery cart covers and diaper bags too!

Also remember, you can always leave a small backup bag in the car, that way you don't have to carry as much.
