Ugg, sounds like my youngest, she's a 3 for cats and bermuda among others. Bermuda grass! How am I spose to protect her from that!? Her biggest help was me cutting out all processed foods from her diet - basically fast food, and boxed/bagged meals are cut to a minimum, and she gets lots of whole fruits and vegetables. She hasnt been on an allergy medication for years, and I only have to treat her occasionally for a flare-up (usually when she buries her face in her friend's cat). We're living without central AC (no filtration) in a very dusty home and even have 2 cats, (2 dogs, a rat, tons of fish, etc.) When she - and I - was at her worst, I put a Hunter hepa filter next to the bed to help while she was sleeping (vacuum weekly to extend the life of the filter - they're not cheap). They're available at most home improvement stores (Lowe's, etc.) Otherwise, you can vacuum often (but not too often, as the carpet padding is a monster of its own), shampoo if necessary occasionally, wipe the dust off the walls/ceiling regularly and change out your HVAC filters often. I dont blow money anymore on Febreeze and the like. It says on the bottle that to be effective, you have to use it everyday, and it can be very expensive. Hope this helps :}

I would charge my floors to title or hard wood if there was a way to do so if not kept the carpets well swept. I would also try to dust each day to help the dust build up down. My mom would make us take lots of sun baths. I would think if you put non egg recipes in your search place in your computor you should come up with a lot of different ways to make his favs. You will want to ask your Doctor behind it get ant shots if they has egg in them I know that a lot of flue shots will not be good for him. I had a friend who son could never get a flue shot for that reason. Ask your Doctor for any tips he has for how to deal with this. God Bless!

I remember being diagnosed with this when I was six and my mom threw out all of my stuffed animals, she did let me keep my favorite bear though. She bought those speacial allergen free pillows and put an air purifier in my room.

Your allergist should have given you information on this, including where to purchase pillow & mattress covers & other products. Visit http://www.allergycontrol.com/.
Allergy shots (immunotherapy) might also be helpful.

If you can afford to, you should get a Hyla vacuum cleaner. They really are wonderful and reduce dust and mites considerably. You sit it in the middle of your home for an hour each day and let it run and it circulates teh air in your home and cleans it. We live across the street from a field and dust has always been a major problem. I would have to dust daily before I got my Hyla, now I only dust about once every two weeks. It really works. They are quiet expensive, but they do offer financing. Also, cloth fibers host dust mites big time so you want to eliminate all of those possible in your home. Toss out throw pillows, as many drapes as possible, decorative rugs, unused furniture, and if possible change all carpet to wood or tile. Make sure you keep curtains and bedding washed regularly, especially the ones in his room.

Hey C.! You know that the air inside our homes is worse than the air outside our homes! Allergies are a big issue in this part of the country too. I am a customer with a company called Melaleuca (www.Melaleuca.com) They manufacture everyday house hold items WITHOUT all the toxins and things in them. The reason I am tellin you about them is because we have really seen a HUGE difference since switching stores. What we use for that is something they make called: Sol-U-Mel. It is a 3 n 1 cleaner, stain remover, and deoderizer. I spray it on the carpet, curtains, the beds, pillows, etc. It has tea tree oil in it and it actually kills the dust mites, as well as, fleas and other things like that! Here is another website about their products that might be helpful. If you have any questions feel free to let me know!

The first thing to do is get rid of any drapes and carpet if possible. Also make sure he's not around while you're dusting or vacuuming or that he wears a mask until everything settles back down.

Since you know the problem allergens, it will be easy to remedy. For dust and dust mites:

- Vacuum as often as possible with a model that has a HEPA filter.
- Stick the stuffed toys in the freezer for 24 hours then wash in a pillow case in hot water then dry in a hot dryer. Do this every two weeks (It's a two day process because of the freezer and then the drying after the wash)
- Get non-allergenic pillows and mattress toppers for the beds
- Wash bedding on hot and dry in a hot dryer
- Use dusting spray or dust gently with a swiffer duster so you don't stir the dust into the air.
- If you can, replace as much carpet with tile or wood.
- Remove curtains or have them cleaned regularly.
- Get an air purifier
- Follow the medication guidelines from your doctor
- Have your a/c ducts cleaned and sanitized and use a special allergy filter

For eggs: Eggs are in a lot of products and can hide in food labels. Ask your doctor or google for a list of other names for eggs that appear in everything from spaghetti sauce to hot dogs to custard.

Some things that may aggravate allergic conditions are chemical fumes, gluten, and dairy. Even though he doesn't have a dairy or wheat allergy they may make other allergies worse. Try using cleaners that aren't as strong smelling. Good old fashioned soap and water in a spray bottle works better than people give it credit for.

My son (he's four) is allergic to the same things, dust and eggs. To be honest, I don't do a thing about the dust. I have three children. I can't go around the house and dust everyday. The only thing we did do was get rid of our carpet and that seems to do the trick.

Please dont go through throwingout all of your childs stuffed animals, most can be washed on a regular bases or put into a trash bag and vaccuuumed to help keep down the dust. On your AC you need to start using a higher Mer rating such as 11 or higher, they cost more but boy do they hel keep the dust down in the house. A Rain bow vac is also wonderful to get al the dirt up. We also have dust allergieshere in our house and when we took up the carpet from the central partof our living area the dustis now to a min. I use a damped dust mop to sweep. Best to you.

I have seen many people's allergy symptoms reduced using an all natural juice. It is a powerful, natural anti-inflammatory, and allergies are actually inflammation of the nasal lining due to an irritation to the allergen (pollen, dust mites). I have been using it in my chiropractic office, and recommend it to all of my patients with allergies. One of my young patients had better results from this product than the allergy shots he had been taking, and was able to discontinue the shots.

Something that a friend of mine told me worked for her was to make her bedroom as allergen free as possible. She said that having somewhere in which she spent so much time helped her body deal with the rest of the day when she was not able to control her environment as much. Good luck in finding what works for your little one.
