Hi moms!
Looking for an optical store to buy glasses for my 21 mo old son. Due to his one eye crossing and bad visio, he was prescribed lenses, but Im having a difficult time finding a store to fill them. Any suggestions would be great-thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi H.,

I had to get my son glasses when he was 16 months old for crossing and far-sightedness. I got them at the clinic my Dr. works in and its in Minnetonka. They specialize in glasses for little fellas and they are terrific! They might be pricey though, at least I thought they were a bit expensive, but I didn't shop around. Its called the Northwest Eye Clinic and I think the little glasses part is called Little Lenses, but I am not sure. Its literally located inside the waiting room for the clinic. The card for the woman we bought the glasses from has "Northwest EyeWear" on it and the phone # is ###-###-####. Good luck! We had a hell of a time getting him to keep them on, but now he wears them most of the time no problem.

For kids glasses I would go to The Glasses Menagerie in minneapolis www.kidseyes.com . I also work part-time at Lenscrafters and we have cute kids glasses. It's hard to find glasses that fit a 21 month old,but the Glasses Menagerie is just for kids!

I've seen the soft plastic frames for toddlers at the Park Nicollet optical store.

Arthur Williams on Cleveland Ave. (in Highland Park near the Theatre) has a selection of kids glasses. What's great about them is that they make the glasses right there so you get them in just a few days (or less). This is a great optical store. Check it out!

There is also a children's glasses shop in Uptown called The Glasses Menagerie: www.kidseyes.com. They may be the best fit for you as they have a huge selection.

Glasses Menagerie does have great frames for kids. Just be careful that you are cautious about the type of frame that you choose. Look carefully at the finish and make sure it is durable. They DO NOT stand behind their frames that have finishes that may chip. I found out the hard and EXPENSIVE way that this type of damage is not covered, even if it happens within the first week or two of owning the glasses. Read the fine print carefully before you purchase!!!
Good Luck to you.

I second the suggestion for Glasses Menagerie (kidseyes.com) in Minneapolis - they only work with kids, starting as young as 4 months, so they really know what they're doing and have a great selection. We got our daughter her glasses there at 14 months, also for crossed eyes due to farsightedness. Their warranty includes replacing any scratched lenses in the first year (which we've used), if your doctor changes his prescription in the first month (our doctor did), you get the lenses changed for free, if it changes again in the next 9 months (which our daughter's just did), the lenses are replaced for half off. They've also been great at doing numerous adjustments and minor repairs for no charge at all.

Good luck!
