I was just wondering if anyone new of a good excercise program or weightloss program. I have been so depressed. I have gained about 50 lbs and I cant seem to lose it. I have no get up to go. My daughter is now 10months and she still wakes up at night I am so tired. My husband travels but when he is here he helps out. I went to my so called best friends sons birthday party. (She has lost weight and looks great). I have been friends with her for 22 yrs. She was talking to another girl and didnt know I could hear her and she told the girl I was a friend of her moms from bowling. It broke my heart and my spirit and I went to restroom and cried. I guess she was embarassed of my weight. I just really need something that will work. I would appreciate it so much. I really dont have anyone but my husband and my kids. I could use some support Thank You for listening please respond. Thanks Again L.

What can I do next?

Hi L. - Like most of the others here I am also about 40-50 lbs over weight. I get depressed about it also. I bought an Elliptical machine and have bee using it about twice a week. I work full time and my 10 mo. old is still getting up in the night too. As for the freind I have the same thing my so-called friend lives in another city and she brags all the time about being a size 4. But instead of being jealous I look at the positive things in my life a good husband, son, and real freinds. Who you are on the inside is the most important thing.

There is a FREE website called www.sparkpeople.com It is very helpful. You plug in your height, weight and how much you want to lose and it will give you a program to follow. There is also a bunch of message boards you can get on daily and talk to people going through the same things that you are.

Good Luck. I have been using this system since June and have lost almost 15 lbs. It is a slow process but it is healthy and all natural. No pills, or get skinny quick schemes.

So the last week of July 2004... i started Phase I... two weeks later Phase II, then two weeks later Phase III.... IT'S TOUGH... but I know you can do it! IF YOU WANT THIS... GO FOR IT! Dont fret about your friends comments, she was dead wrong and the universe will catch up with her on that one, but if it were me, after some time has gone by, just so she knows that your not mad but hurt, tell her about it, tell her you heard her, tell her it hurt you, and then still be her friend and use that hurt as motivation. The best revenge from a letdown like that would be to lose all the weight you can, and come back to next years party like the shining star you are. Im 36 and had my son at age 31, it was the hardest weight I ever had to lose in my life, but I have a great husband who was fine with me in a 14, 12 and now finally a 10. I have a friend who is a "personal trainer" in training...she works full time but persues that part time, maybe you two can hook up sometimes for a work out or two and she can show you some tricks you can do at home by yourself, she also has a small baby. You can email me at ____@____.com if you interested in knowing more about that. Lastly, PRAY, prayer is like meditation, it puts you in tune with GOD and yourself. Good Luck!!!

Hi L.,

My name is S. and I live in the midtown area with my husband and 13month old daughter. I work full time (sort of!) outside of the house, but my schedule is very flexible as I work for my family. My husband works full time as well. My daughter, Emma, goes to daycare two times a week. (I stay home with her one day, my mom stays with her one day, etc...) Anyway, your posting on Mamasource touched me. I am almost 36 years old, and have a weight problem too. I have for my entire life. I actually had gastric bypass surgery in 2002 and lost a lot of weight. But since having the baby I"ve gained back a good bit of it. I, too, need to lose a good 50 pounds and it just doesn't seem to be that easy! I would love to have someone that lives near me where we could help each other out morally. Maybe even walk together, etc. Just like you, my entire life is my daughter and husband and it would be nice to have a girlfriend again to hang out with. FUnny after I lost all that weight after my surgery my so called "friends" didn't know what to think about the "new" S. and needless to say I don't speak to any of them anymore. Several were lifelong friends like your situation.

ALso, my daughter still wakes up several times during the night. Although my husband and I take turns with her, it still leaves us exhausted all the time and frankly it just sucks not being able to get a full night's sleep!

I could go on and on, but if you are interested in talking send me a message back and hopefully we can chat. I miss having girlfriends!

Take care,

S.

The Best weight loss I have ever found is just walking and not eating anything after 7pm. I am 5"1 and when I gave birth to my son I was 210lbs! For someone that short I was really overweight, so after I had my son I decided to go on a weight plan with my doctor. She gave me diet pills that speed up your metabolism, (I needed them for the energy that I didn't have, I started walking 1 mile around a track near me and now I am at 140lbs and I feel so much better.(My son is also 15 months old now), I no longer need the diet pills because I actually have a little energy when I get home from work. If you don't have a baby sitter at the time you need to walk, take the kids with you and let them play around you while you walk, it will certainly wear them out and you will get your exersize. (Strollers are wonderful!)
On another note, Your so called friend isn't really a friend if she is ashamed to be with you. My friends never cared what I looked like, and a real friend doesn't.I am sure you have other friends, maybe ditch this one! If she asks why, be honest with her and tell her what you overheard.
Before you start walking, try pampering yourself first, try going to get your hair done, or maybe your nails and toes done, since you love to shop buy yourself a new outfit, being depressed about your weight I think is normal, but the first step is your Self-Esteem, After you start feeling good about yourself then start walking. I think after that you will be dedicated to being healthy and happy again and that will be your drive to walk:)
Ps. I am sorry if this isn't what you were looking for but this is the first time I have every responded to one of these, I am new to Mamasource:) I read your story and I really wanted to tell you that there is a way:)If there is a will, there is a way :)Hope it helps:)

i am in the same situation except my youngest is 2 1/2. I'm sorry your friend isnt' being supportive. First let me say you need surround yourself with people taht want to support you losing weight and will be positive. Second WEIGHT WATCHERS! You can go to the meetings or if you are unabe the have online. On Weight watchers you can eat whatever you want, you are just are held accountable for it through points you are given so many points a day depending on much you weigh. I never feel hungry and if you are hungry their are plenty of zero point foods. Example a salad with tomatoes, cucmbers adn Fat free itialian dressing is ZERO points. I started 2 weeks ago and am now going to the gym 5 days a week. I have already lost 7 pounds and I can tell my clothes are getting looser. The gym is nice b/c it has child watch and I get 2 hours to work out by myself and a break from kids. The girls that watch the kids are great. My kids love going. I go to the YMCA in Halls.
I will be here for your support if you need it. Here is my email if ou wan tmore information.

Hi! I just had my third child 10 months ago and at first I was having a hard time losing the weight. I started at curves and lost around 30lbs in about four months. I really enjoyed it. But I did just switch to another gym called fit and tan, because I needed a gym that had a daycare. That one is really good, it also offers different types of dance aerobics and belly dancing, so much fun!

Like all the other posts, I know how you feel and it is so tough. I'm trying to get 70 lbs off. My sister-in-law had her fourth child right before I had mine and in four months all her weight was off! It works that way with some people. What has helped me is exercise. One of the local hospitals where I live offer exercise classes twice a week. (I liked that 'cuz I didn't have to sign a contract or fork over hundreds of dollars). I began those exercise classes and on the other days I walked the mall. Lo and behold weight just started falling off. Hang in there, keep your head up and be determined.

good luck

I agree with all the Weight Watchers advice. I use the program and love it. With three options (meetings, online, or the at-home kit) you can pick one that works best for you time & budget. My grandmother, aunt, & I have all lost a bunch of weight on it and it is something that helps you develop good long term habits and doesn't require buying specific name brand foods.

Best of luck! I know how you feel, I'm still losing the weight from my almost 9month old. I was finishing night classes & working full time so weight loss had to get put on hold :(

I hope things get better for you. I think the first thing you need to do is tell yourself that you're hot! Your husband still desires you right? He wouldn't if he didn't find you sexy. If your friend really said that because of your weight then she was never your friend to begin with. As far as a diet goes, try counting your calories, most of us consume way more than the 2000 calories that's recommended. See if there is an activity you can go with the kids. Put the baby in the stroller and go for a walk around the block, around the mall, at the park. Just getting out of the house may help keep you from being depressed. Just try to stay positive. I think we all have weight issues, it just comes down to how we feel about ourselves. Good Luck.

Like many others, I just want you to know you are not alone. I have always struggled with my weight-up and down a lot. But after 2 babies in 2 1/2 years, I am now at my heaviest and need to lose at least 30 pounds. I have an 11 month old and am still wearing some of my maternity clothes because they are more comfy!! Embarrassing!! She still doesn't sleep through the night either and I blame being too tired on not exercising. But, i know I just need to get motivated!! I have been successful with losing weight before with Weight Watchers and on my own. You really just have to change your lifestyle-eat more healthy and get some exercise-much easier said than done, I know.
Your friend doesn't sound like a true friend. I know what you mean about feeling like you need support too. I feel like I just have my family too. Good luck to you-keep us posted.

I gained 50 pounds with my daughter and only lost 30 when i gave birth. It is extremely hard but i did get the weight off. I am 27 and age is a factor on how much and how quick you can lose. But my advice is to cut out sugar and processed foods. Really look at all of the ingredients in food. Eat a lot of vegetables. switch to wheat bread products with lots of fiber. join a gym. you have to spend at least two hours a day 4-5 days a week. hour for cardio and hour for weight training. If you can, join a gym with classes. makes it a lot easier to stay active. You can try pills if you want but there is no quick way to lose weight. good luck

Honey buck up. and get that baby and her stroller and go to the mall. you like to shop right?? well shoping is great exercise. its lots of walking if walk the whole mall. and theres lots of stuff to see too so baby wont get bored easily, and if you walk fast you will burn more calories and it will be funner for baby. Also it takes time to get back to normal weight, and at 38 its harder than at 30 or even 35. so change yer diet , get some freash fruit and veggies in there and GO SHOPPING , christmas is after all comming up. Or Join the YMCA they have great facilities and they have free babysitting so you can work out or swim or do a yoga class w/o having to watch the kiddos.

I'd also say Weight Watchers. I haven't used it myself but have some friends who did great with it when nothing else worked. Joining a gym is wonderful if you can afford it. You get to work out, get a short break from the kids who are having a great time in the nursery. I am speechless about your friend... that's just the most horrible thing I've ever heard. I don't know where you live, but is there maybe a mom's club in the area? That's a great way to make friends. visit momsclub.org.

Hi L.... I had to read your post because it reminded me so much of myself. I'm 38 and just had my 3rd child almost three weeks ago.

I'm struggling with my weight also. I'm breastfeeding and it seems to give me a huge appetite. I'm planning on watching Oprah today, because Dr. Oz will be on with weight loss tips and 4 foods that are supposed to tame your appetite I believe.

In the past I lost weight by exercising and eating less and avoiding desserts.

That's my plan also, but so far I haven't been able to get started. I had a lot of pain when I would walk toward the end of my pregnancy and that hasn't completely healed yet, so I'm anxiously waiting for that to go away, so I can start exercising again. And as far as the eating, I keep giving in to temptation. I plan on walking 2 - 4 miles a day, but starting slowly, because I'm out of shape and eventually jogging part of that. That always helped me to lose weight.

I know it'll happen and I'll get my act together eventually, it's just discouraging right now.

Hang in there! I know what you're going through. It doesn't help when you have a baby keeping you up all night! :) It'll get better with time.

I gained about 50lbs with my first baby. After breastfeeding for 6 months, was still left with about 25lbs to lose. I joined LA Weight Loss and lost it all within 3 months. The program is so easy to follow and it really works. It is a little pricey, but so worth it. I ended up being smaller than I was before I ever got pregnant. Exercise never hurts, but I know it's hard to find time. Good luck, I'm sure you can do it!! Use the "friend" as motivation!

L. honestly from reading that post I would ask your "friend" why she made the comment that she did about you. To me I think what she did was all out rude. And about losing weight I found the best thing that I have done was drink alot of water and tea. There isnt much time for me to work out in between taking care of two small children (ages 3 mos and 19 mos) and running a business. But that has seemed to work for me so far in some of my weight loss. Take care and dont let your friend nor your weight get you down.....We are all beautiful....

I also had about 40 pounds to lose. I've been on Dr. Gott's no flour no sugar diet, and i've lost 8lbs so far. That's without exercising. My boyfriend is also on it and he has lost 16 lbs (but men always lose it faster than women, unfortunately). His aunt has been on it for quite some time now and she has lost 90 lbs. Yes, that's 90 lbs! I don't know how it works so well, but all I need to know is it works and I still am healthy, if not healthier. and , once you get down to your goal, all you need to do is slowly integrate the flour and sugar back into your diet. It sounds like your friend wasn't ever a true friend. It still hurts, i know, but in the end, just remind yourself that you were her friend, she wasn't ever yours. At least you have a great family. i hope this helps you out...good luck, hon!

I am doing the South Beach Diet. It's really good and easy to follow. You can pick the book up at any wal-mart or book store. I've lost 7 pounds in the first 2 weeks. It's basically lean meats and vegetables- no sugars for the first 2 weeks. But you can have sugar free pudding and pocicles and all. It's fairly easy and it works!

Good luck- and forget that so called friend- you don't need someone as superficial and gross as her!! You're far to good for that kind of treatment!!

Try Curves for Women. It is a local gym. It is for women only. The workouts are only 30 minutes. You go around a circuit and do 30 seconds on each machine. After 2 times around the circuit you are done. I like it because you don't have to get all dressed up to go work out. It is about $35 a month, I think (maybe a little less). They don't have childcare though. They also have their own diet plan you can sign up for too. I was also set to start the diet and then I sprained my ankle. I have just started going back. Once I get in the habit of working out again, I plan to start back on the diet. Good luck.

In doing this I picked up a First and read an article about parisites and how cleaning them out of your body could help you lose around 22 pounds just to start with. After I read that I called my friend who is a nutrionist who agreed with the article and told me that Rainbow foods also had a parisite removal pack. I have not started the program yet so I can't tell you yes it works on removing weight but I can tell you I would not mind removing parisites from my body even if I didnt lose weight! Good luck!

I gained 50 lbs with my first son (who is now 3 1/2 yrs old) and only lost about 20 before I got pregnant with my second son (who is now 11 mths old). I know what you are going through. I cut down on how much I eat. I only eat breakfast and lunch and drink an energy drink for dinner. It doesn't really give me energy but it curbs my appetite. I have also started walking with my children every night when I get home from work. They have really enjoyed being strolled around the neighborhood and I get to push an extra 50 lbs in the stroller. Keep your head up and don't let anyone bring you down. I know that's easier said than done!!

I am in a similar position. I am 27, great husband, and have 1 baby girl who's 4 years old. I have put on about 30 pounds and am looking for ladies to walk with me at least 3 times a week. My self esteem has hit rock bottom too, and I know I just need to get out and make new friends and meet people I can relate to. I love bowling and playing pool.

Maybe we could get together and start a support unit for each other.

I am 38 also with a birthday coming up in December. After my third child I was at my all-time lowest weight (even wedding weight) and then we moved to Iceland. I gained 20 pounds the first year and have never lost them. I have put on more since then and blamed not being able to lose weight on a low thyroid problem. It takes a lot of work and willingness to feel hunger in order to lose even a few pounds, but I know we can do it! I live in the Biloxi area and have three teenagers. I am a sahm and I would love to be your weight loss partner if you are interested. The holidays I think will be my hardest time because I love to bake and cook.... and eat. Chin up, we're not hopeless.

I will tell you a great way my sister in law lost weight after her second child. She was very lazy during both births and in between so she looked very thick around the middle after the second one. I was away for about 6 months or so after the second one was born and when I got back she was back into an 8 or a 10 cant remember and still losing weight. She almost didnt fit into her bridesmaid dress for my wedding losing weight but that was great. She was doing Tybo with a friend. And Ive done it a few times when i was younger and that really works. Get a freind and do Tybo, Turbo jam, or one of those programs. FInd one for you. Another great place is Curves. THe only problem is you need someone to watch your children for about 30 minutes plus driving time, but i did that for three months once and 30 minutes a day 3-5 days a week and i lost 5 inches over all. That was my favorite program. Only women around and it was a set program designed for our bodies. If i had the money I would stay with that one over the others. I had fun their but no men allowed and no children inside so.

Hi.

I'm so sorry you're struggling right now.

Here's my advice.

1. Go to see your doctor. You may still have some post partum depression. Ask about what diet/exercise program is right for you.
2. Weight Watchers!!!!! Generally, doctors like it and there is a large social component as you attend a meeting a week (or more). Keep going back, don't give up, and you'll meet some wonderful people. I brought my daugher with me to the meetings. I loved it! I lostl 25 lbs on it and kept it off until my pregnancies. I'm back down to my wedding weight again and it's not a struggle.
3. Are you taking care of yourself? Get a sitter and go to a movie or read a book in a park. Take care of yourself and you'll have more energy to give to your family!

Good luck!

After having my daughter Kylee I wasn't happy at all with my weight. I did Pilates and wow it did tone but OMG it hurt.... I was sore for 3 days after. I know being at home I tended to eat more then I should. Like when I put my daughter down for her nap I would have a snack plus my 2 meals. I was always snacking. I went to my GYNO about my wieght and he told me I could try ADAPAX and those things worked good. I lost like almost 10 pounds a month doing nothing =) And it didn't make me jumpie which that was my main concern with taking care of my daughter and son. But they didn't make me hungrey all the time and when I was hungrey I could make a kids plate and be full.

Girl don't even worry (easier said than done! :) ) I have always been a hard-to-lose-weight person, but I did a program, low carb and the only exercise was to make sure you did at least 10,000 steps a day. It's easy using real food which I'm sure with 5 kids you don't have a lot of time for extra preparation! Let me know if you want more info.

As for your friend, I agree with below that maybe you want to just tell her that it hurt your feelings but if she could help keep you accountable you'd really appreciate it.

Remember the best beauty is within. Best of luck you can do it!

I understand what you are going through. Some good advice in the messages everyone has wrote. IT takes something different for every person. You just have to try and see what works for you. Finding other parents in your area with similiar issues, won't be hard b/c look at all of us on here!! Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig....could be a start to eating hearlier, joining a gym w/childcare....

I gained 50 lbs 4 1/2 years ago when I was pregnant w/my daughter, I lost about 40 while breastfeeding, but 2 years later and the depression of my relationship and eventual break of it, I gained almost all that weight back! I started by walking aroud my neighborhood w/child and dog, then started working out at home 3 days a week for 20 min (to either a tape or on treadmill), then 3 months later after i lost about 8 lbs felt comfy enought to join a gym and started working out like 5-6 days a week for 1 1/2 hours! I lost 20 lbs....but them this year I have not been as consistent w/diet and excersize and gained 10 lbs back! I am not motivates and don't have as much time w/school and afterschool activities that i didn't have before (i have 45 min about 4 days a week if i want to work out). I am looking for something that will work for me also. I need to lose about 20 lbs again....

i am in the cartersville area if you need to link up
