"Need to Find Playgrounds!"

I am looking for playgrounds around my area. Nashville and the surrounding counties are fine! I do not mind driving. My three year old son, Jackson, is very energetic and needs something besides me to play with. We are new to the area and I am completely lost. I can't seem to find anything on the web about public playgrounds. We are currently living in an apartment. Unfortunately, Jackson doesn't do well in small places if you know what I mean. He needs some runaround room until we can purchase a home. We need to get out! I have taken him to the zoo, but I need more choices. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for their responses! We have visited three places already and they were all GREAT! We also had friends come visit this weekend from out of town and I had plenty of places to choose from to keep both of our sons happy! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

Aside from the great parks that people have already mentioned; The Adventure Science Center is a great place to let kids run around. We go there on rainy or cold days and the kids love exploring and learning.

I always take my daughter to the Fannie Mae (or more commonly called "Dragon Park.") It is located on Blakemore in between 24th and 26th Ave. N. On a nice day it is always filled with lots of children of all ages. There are two little jungle gym areas - one for the littler kids. There is a big grassy area to run, and also there is a big mosaic dragon - hence the nick-name. Parking might be an issue on a nice day, but it really is a nice, fun place for kids.

Hope this helps some!

Shelby park (not far from downtown) to run around. Or, go there are a few places that have indoor places where he can use those inflatable bouncing things. A few are listed in the phone book and online.

Downtown Nashville has two great public parks with play areas. Centennial Park - located just off West End Avenue is huge. It has a play area with slides, climbing areas, swings, etc. There is also plenty of room to run in the grass, and there is a pond with a walking trail and ducks, birds, geese you can feed your old, dried bread to. The other park is called Dragon Park by the locals; it is right across the street from Vanderbilt University at Belcourt Ave and 22nd, I think. It has different play areas and a large mosaic dragon the kids can climb on. Hope this helps!

Hi P.,
I don't know where you live, but there's a fantastic playground just off Harding Road on Leake Avenue in Belle Meade - Parmer Park. It's where an old elementary school used to be and has lots of kids' equipment, a stream, basketball court and even a walking loop to take strolls. The area couldn't be safer and there are always a ton of kids and moms around.

There's also a small playground in Centennial Park near Vanderbilt on West End, and 2 small playgrounds on the Julia Green Elementary School grounds - the school's closed for remodeling right now, but the playgrounds are open and ready. You could also try one of the little play areas in Edwin Warner Park - check with the Parks Department on how to find it driving through the park (which is at the end of Belle Meade Blvd.) Glad you're enjoying Nashville!
